ATI HD 58xx, all disactivated on Canadian Newegg?
I've been waiting literally weeks just for a single HD 5850, checking in every single day, every few hours. I kept my screen open all last night because the ETA was yesterday, but it was never in-stock. I come on today to find they've all been de-activated. I'm not in any rush, it takes a while to ship to where I live anyways. I'd like to get my system before Christmas though, you know? Any idea why it was taken down, it doesn't seem fair that only the U.S. gets quality products.

Can't get a 58xx down here either. They are always out of stock. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103085

They're not just out of stock, they're no longer available. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121349

Re: ATI HD 58xx, all disactivated on Canadian Newegg?
Sometimes Newegg deactivates items when they do not have a firm restock ETA and the time frame anticipated for restocking is over 2 weeks. The items should get reactivated when they have a known restock date.

Yup, deactivation is a sad sign.. Most likely it means that the manuf. is having serious supply issues and is unable to send NewEgg a shipment for quite some time (or at the very least, has no idea when it can get some stock to NewEgg, otherwise there would be an ETA)..
Onboard RAID vs. 3Ware RAIDI never recommend people run RAID-5 with onboard chipsets.

I guess I'll just have to wait some more, ugh. There are serious supply issues with these cards...

Re: ATI HD 58xx, all disactivated on Canadian Newegg?
We (the U.S.) don't have any 5850's or 5870's in stock either, and my favorite brand (MSI) has been deactivated too. The problem is that these GPU's are manufactured on a new 40nm process, and the company that manufactures the chips, TSMC (who also manufactures nVidia's GPU's as well) is having problems with their new machines, so they can't make very many of them until the issue is resolved. Some industry insiders predict that the shortage will last until late January 2010 or early Feburary 2010. It's also part of the reason that nVidia is late bringing their Fermi chips to market, which are also manufactured on the new 40nm process.

Re: ATI HD 58xx, all disactivated on Canadian Newegg?
Because of this shortage I think Newegg could do with a better way of telling us when things like these are available. I too waited for the cards on the ETA days as much as I could in between work and on my days off. The last ETA never brought any cards, and today I got an auto-notify e-mail. Added it to cart, picked shipping info (which at these point I think they have a card saved for that order) and try to finish and they're already gone two minutes after that e-mail, which says to me they barely added any at all, and not on the ETA date. I don't want to be left having to try and just refresh all day and hope they post one card and I get lucky. Well now there is an ETA of 11/16, and I have no idea if I can actually expect anything to be added. I'll probably still be at the site all day in between work trying to catch it. Really they should add a more descriptive ETA, and a more accurate one. Like add it once they're actually shipping cards to Newegg, and say how many roughly they are expecting to get. I've also never seen the ETA time to be accurate at all. I've bought a lot from Newegg and never had any trouble but with the way I have to find a scarce item like this.

yea..it would be great if manuf can give newegg a more accurate ETA, but delays due to inventory error or with the shipping trucks is simply hard to predict, so it's unlikely either manuf or newegg could give us an accurate date, so just use their Auto Notify link and check it time to time

Re: ATI HD 58xx, all disactivated on Canadian Newegg?
Hm well I finally snagged one today.. the one I wanted too! Newegg still is shaky on making it known when they are available, I'm glad I had off work today other wise I would have just started my shift. It DOES seem that Newegg is pushing hard to make this available, which I give them credit for.

Re: ATI HD 58xx, all disactivated on Canadian Newegg?
From what I have been reading, the problem is two-fold. First, higher than expected demand and second, difficulty at the manufacturing facility where the chips are produced. The fab is having trouble with the yields of 40nm chips and adding the higher than expected demand to the second issue means that it is even harder than normal to estimate when the GPUs are going to arrive.

Re: ATI HD 58xx, all disactivated on Canadian Newegg?
Can't blame the Egg for the manufacturers problem. Just going to go ahead and say that, not directed at anyone but before any blame happens.
And Tekran is quite correct in his post above, the fab is having issues from what I've been hearing. Demand is quite high for the 5850's, while the 5870's have had higher then normal demand for a GPU in it's price range.

Re: ATI HD 58xx, all disactivated on Canadian Newegg?
A30N: TSMC (who also manufactures nVidia's GPU's as well) is having problems with their new machines, so they can't make very many of them until the issue is resolved.
I agree it's TSMC production tha's the issue, I believe I've read that the more direct issue lies in them not making enough workable 40nm fabs. And in most cases, when they hammer out a 5870 and its transistor count isn't passing QA/QC, they'll downgrade it to a 5850, which makes one wonder if this will have issues itself in that slot. The result of this process I thought I read, was we should eventually expect more 5870s than 5850s, but then again, today, we can't expect Dog dodododod
A30N: It's also part of the reason that nVidia is late bringing their Fermi chips to market, which are also manufactured on the new 40nm process.
I don't know about this one, I thought this issue was still in Nvidia court and them still not decided in what they actually want fFermi to be comprised of.
Sorry for the hijack, probably should have made this in tech discuss.
But I'll concur, the Jan/Feb 2010 date seems to be the wait range, though I've read here and there even longer.
