This is all being purchased at Newegg. Any input would  be appreciated. My biggest question is will that motherboard fit nicely in that case?

 Also will that powersupply be sufficient? Enough of the correct plug ins? I just want another person to look this over before i buy it. Make sure i haven't overlooked anything silly. Oh and I will most likely put XP Pro and  then switch to Windows 7 later.

How do you think this PC will run? I know the video card isn't the latest and greatest, but im thinking i should be able to run all new games on hi to max settings.

Any other input/comments/suggestions would be great. I fix computers for a living(business pcs are quite different then gaming haha), but this is my first from scratch build.

not a problem, put it on auto notify it's a tier 2 PSU for one and second it's a single +12v rail which is better.

The 4870 is actually a great card but of course you will never be able to fit a 10.5 and above card in that case so you will be fine. As for running games who knows there is no list you provided.

Not really considering that yes the PSU, CPU and the GPU are upped a bit from a standard user. But take in to consideration that most gamers will use the same style of HDD, optical, and motherboard as any other end-user.

 This setup should be able to run stuff like Dirt 2, Crysis, Guitar Hero 3, Diablo 3(even though we don't know min requirements),Modern Warfare 1/2 etc, all on hi-max settings?

Eventually I will want to upgrade the ram to 16 gb.

  I have been considering a new build around your budget.  I decided to wait till January.

but here are a few ideas of mine.

1: the I5 750 is the only cpu intel has in the $125 to $250 range worth purchasing.

paired wt a solid entry level mobo from Gigabyte or Asus it increases your cost by about 30 bucks

2: DDR2 is becoming an old standard, as such it is overpriced. (time to move to DDR3)

3: the HD 5770 is very capable wt out using a lot of juice.  (Save money on a Psu)

    I suggest corsairs 550VX when back in stock

        HD 5770 is a good choice until Nvidia comes out wt something to compete wt ATI's 5000 series.

        Note: ATI just bumped up their 5000 series pricing due to demand and

                "a complete lack of competition from the green goblin"

Why 16GB of RAM 8 is even more than enough for everything, hell right now till next week I have been running 4GB of RAM and never got it past 60% usage with both Windows XP, Vista and 7. There is no need for 16GB at all unless you are running a small server.

   A few bench marks around the web have shown the bennys wt 3 to 4gb's of ram.

There not that extensive at all really. I can run several new games without a problem on my system. The 16GB mobo that you picked is just fine. As for games they are more CPU and GPU intensive more so then RAM today. I have 41 games installed some old like CS 1.6 but also I can play H.A.W.X,, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Need for Speed: Shift, Assassins Creed, without lag, and the RAM will not go above 60% on my system.

mmk. I have plenty of sata cables, and i think i can find a ide/pata cable. If not office depot or radio shack probably has them. I guess the only thing it would suck to not have would be the rear panel shield.

Well I would avoid the open box on a new build. The only time I would buy one is if I was in a pinch and needed something right away to last me for about 1 month.
