Need help choosing motherboard for an Athlon II X4

Hello.  I am looking for a motherboard that I can buy for an Athlon II X4.  I am planning on also getting the Saphire Radeon HD 5770.  Should I get one motherboard with Hybrid CFX?  It has been a while since I built a PC on my own and not sure on what the best setup should be.  I am looking to spend around 100 dollars on the board.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I am not sure which one yet, but I am more inclined in the 630.

forgot to add to the previous reply that I was looking at these two boards...

    GIGABYTE GA-MA790XT-UD4P AM3 DDR3 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

ASUS M4A77TD Pro AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

What do you think?  Which of those is recommended, or any other in mind?

The 630 is nice for $122 I would say the GIGABYTE GA-MA790XT-UD4P AM3 DDR3 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail But that is me I have had issues in the past with Asus at times and never once with a G.Byte board. But that is just my experience in it.

Re: Need help choosing motherboard for an Athlon II X4

Thanks for your reply.  What about memory...will these ones do?

    G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL - Retail

Should I get more than 4GB or will I be fine with that?

Also, I chose the SAPPHIRE 100283L Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail because I am planning on connecting the PC to my TV.  Will that setup of board, processor,RAM and Video Card be good enough to play games at 1080p (1920x1080 if I am not mistaken)?

I got a Power Supply at home from my old PC that is of 550W I believe, but not from any known brands.  Should I get a new Power Supply?  Which one is recommended.  I was looking at the Thermaltake W0116RU 750W Power Supply - Retail.  Should I get another or none at all?  I am not sure if I should save the money for now.

Not a problem at all, sorry for the late reply just installed Windows 7 and still installing items.

Yes 4GB will work just fine.

Well the 5770 is a nice card but get the 4850 or the 4870 at least. As for the PSU here is a better one Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Continuous Power ATX12V Ver.2.2 / EPS12V version 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified ... - Retail 79.99 + free shipping.

From what I have seen from the cards benchmarks, the 5770 is on par with the 4870, am I right?

Not really Performance wise, HD 4870 is better but HD 5770 has some good features and more power efficient.

Re: Need help choosing motherboard for an Athlon II X4

See the sig, and for the record from a "playing games" vs "reading benchmarks" perspective, the 5770 is on par. When I first built this rig I had an XFX 4870 1gb installed (the newer one that lacks fan speed control and doesn't vent hot air out the back  so I returned it) and I have gamed quite a bit on both cards and found actual gameplay you can't tell any difference. Now I don't play the most demanding games, but WoW:WotLk, Trine, Torchlight, LOTRO, HL2 et al, TF2 Batman AA, Tomb Raider et al, COD4... run perfectly at 1920x1080 4xAA/16xAF details on max (obviously no AA on Batman, thanks nV d-holes). I'm pleasantly suprised how well this combo performs, and we are still 2-3 weeks from official Catalyst support with the Nov release, performance will only get better.

I would not be afraid of the 5770 especially with the amazingly low temps it runs at, how quiet it is and the new features it packs. I'm sorley tempted to go Crossfire and give Eyefinity a whirl, but mostly for WoW and I spend enough on tha game every month so we'll see.

Re: Need help choosing motherboard for an Athlon II X4

Thanks for your feedback bobcb.  I already purchased the 4890 because it seemed that was what everyone was recommending.  I was leaning towards the 5770 mainly for the same reasons you stated until I saw everyone recommending the 4890.  Now I wonder if newegg will take back this card and exchange it for the 5770 or the 5850.

Re: Need help choosing motherboard for an Athlon II X4

There is nothing wrong with the 4890 and if you already have it I'm not sure I'd eat the restock fee to swtich, it is a very nice card.
