DVD player

ok here is my problem my HP laptop is about 5 years old and the disc player doesnt seem to work anymore thru Windows Media Player, so I am trying to use a regular home DVD player thru my computer with an S- video cord I was hoping it would just detect it was there but of course thats not happening, I have looked at the control panel for someway to make it work but it does not, if anyone can help I would appreciate it.

It doesnt work like that.

That S-Video port on your laptop is to output the laptop screen to another display.

You cannot input video and/or a device through it.

If you wanna replace the broken dvd drive head over to hp.com and order a replacement one. Or at least find the part number and order it somewhere else.
