    High Temps...

My Intel Q9450 is running too high for the HSF I have attached I think...

I have my processor OC'd to 3.2GHz (stock 2.6) and I hit temps as high as 62 C

I am currently using Arctic silver 5 and the  Xigamatek HDT found here:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233003

I am currently re-applying the HSF and thermal paste to see if that is the problem, but if that doesn't help then I might go ahead and buy the Zalman 9900.

Any suggestions on a sure fire way to apply thermal paste? and does anyone have any other ideas as to what could be causing this?

    Re: High Temps...

Q9450 is a very hot CPU, thats pretty descent for 3.233GHz man.

What are your room temps, and what case cooling do you have? (Extremely important with 2 vid cards)

Have you installed higher volume fans in that case? or just the puny stock fans?

Stock fan on that cooler? or high volume?

What direction is the cooler pointed in?  (it is best to be pointed at a cas fan to suck all that hot air strait out of the case)

I can keep mine under 65c @ 3.733GHz but my cooling might be a bit more elaborate. 2 x 120mm 110 cfm fans on my cooler, 9 120mm 110cfm fans drawing air through the case.

Not convinced a new HSF will lower your temps.

    What's the Question?

    Re: High Temps...

room temps are 80-82F with max at 86F

Case is the Apevia X-Pleasure and I have stock fans. Case found here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811144128

The fan that came with the HSF is the one I am using.

and I just reset my CPU and HSF and directed it straight into the case fan. So far I have not gotten above 55C and instead of idleing at 46C it now idles at 38C... so I think I got the amount of thermal paste correct and got it pointed in the right direction lol.

    Re: High Temps...

Thats probably the best you'll get @ 82f room temp, I'd suggest dropping it to 72f - 68f, that will drop your temps another 5-7c as well.

...... why 82f anyway? WOW warm room!
