I can no longer see my external hard drive

I started to use Acronis True Image 11 to restore files from one external hard drive to another. Acronis froze and I did a hard reboot. I can no longer see the EHD that I want to restore to. Please help with suggestions.

Well if you right click on "My Computer" go to "Manage" then to "Disk Management", you should be able to see the hard drive there. If it's there, then you might want to format it. Just be aware, that you're essentially wiping the hard drive by doing a format, and getting it back to a 'blank' accessible state.

I do have another question. I'm restoring a backup that will take four hours. This happens every so often that I can not get my computer to turn on. Normally i can move the mouse and get to the screen. The screen stays black on my monitor. Is there anything I can do. I don't want to do a hard shutdown while my restore is still in process. I can't tell if it's still restoring or not. I have XP pro
