    WD 640GB reporting 127GB

Over the weekend I noticed my hd showing total capacity 127GB. Drive is a WD 640GB Caviar Black so it should be showing something like 600GB. Granted I just built my system, so perhaps it's a partitioning issue? It has been a long time since I've installed a brand new hard drive. Also read something in the stickies here regarding a jumper pin that might be causing this? Any opinions/ideas?

SATA drives don't use jumpers to control the size like IDE dives do.

How is it formatted (right click the drive and go to properties)? It should be NTFS, otherwise it'll be limited in size. If it is NTFS, you might have to reformat it

It's NTFS. It was a brand new drive/new build/fresh OS 7 install. Did I miss a step when installing the OS?

Well, since you'll have to reformat eventually, I'd suggest trying to install it again

you might also look and see if its a bios limitation.  you may need to flash it.

    Re: WD 640GB reporting 127GB

Right click on "My Computer" and select "manage," find "Disk Management" under "Storage" and click on it. It should show you how many partitions you have.

If you have additional partitions, you can either format them or extend your 127 GB partition.
