    No....you can have a 32-bit OS on a 64-bit machine, no problem.

But you can't take an OS that is written and optimized for a 64-bit architecture and run it on the older architecture.

For the second question, this is a step-by-step guide.

    Re: stupid quick question

When you say a 32bit machine do you mean the current os or the is the cpu really old?  What is your cpu?  That is what will let us know if you can install a 64bit os or not.  Without knowing what your cpu is I cannot say yes or no to going to a 64bit os.

    Re: stupid quick question

The CPU hardware is generally backwards compatible, not forwards compatible. So a 64-bit can run 32-bit or 64-bit but a 32-bit can't run 64-bit.

    I happily buy tech! Why wouldn't I?

    Re: stupid quick question

OMG do you mean you still have a 32bit processor machine running in your house? that is great but you will waste your Vista, the processor can't support it and I am sure the RAM can't handle Vista as well.
