    MasterCard Securecode Question

I've been trying to make a purchase through newegg.ca for about 2 weeks now. Newegg keeps saying my credit card has been declined, but when I check with mastercard they say that the transaction is being declined on newegg's end because the mastercard securecode is blank.  No one I talk to at newegg seems to even know what this is and they keep telling me to re-enter my CVV2 number on the back of my card which is not what the issue is.

On the order page it even says that if you have a mastercard securecode set up you will be redirected to enter this code. However I am never redirected to enter this code and that seems to be why my order gets declined.

Has anyone else run into this issue with the mastercard securecode on newegg.ca?

    Re: MasterCard Securecode Question

Do you have a different card you can use?

Otherwise you might contact Mastercard and see if they can help you out.

    Re: MasterCard Securecode Question

When I'm directed to the SecureCode page after placing my order, I just click "cancel". You forgo the added security provided by SecureCode, but it is an optional service -- after clicking cancel, I'm always re-directed back to the order confirmation page.

    Re: MasterCard Securecode Question

No I don't actually have another card, I don't tend to use my credit card very often.

When I talked to Mastercard they said that they couldn't do anything because it was being declined on Newegg's end, and it was because of the securecode.

I didn't know SecureCode was optional, I'm not even directed to the securecode page but if it is optional it shouldn't be an issue then.

    Re: MasterCard Securecode Question

On NewEgg's site, it's optional for VISA cards.. Not sure about mastercards.

    Re: MasterCard Securecode Question

RegZero: In this case, you should be receiving a confirmation email with a helpful link, check your email box and click that link, then you will be directed to your account where you will see all your account info under that order. You will need to verify and correct all the info there, then you should be able to resubmit your order yourself and remember to enter the CVV2 number this time. I hope this helps.  And always remember to check your email box, Newegg will automatically send out confirmation emails to remind you of all the problems with your order and the solution to them.

Jogon: glad to hear i'm not the only one having this issue but as of yet I have found no solution

whitelotus: i've done this a number of times already, the problem is that it still does not prompt me for my securecode though. I have no issue entering the CVV2 number on the back of the card but the issue according to mastercard is that the mastercard securecode is blank, which i'm never prompted to enter.  I've resubmitted my order a few times already but it hasn't worked yet, i have a securecode setup on my card which works fine on other sites just not on newegg.  I even see it request information from securecode in the bottom of the browser but i'm still not redirected to enter the password to approve the transaction.

    Re: MasterCard Securecode Question

    Hey all,

Can't believe I missed this post. I've been a little absent from the Xperts.

This is a NewEgg problem according to Mastercard. (probably only affecting NewEgg.ca)

The problem cropped up for me probably about 2 months ago. All my orders used to just go through. Now I have the same problem as you do - declined for a bad SecureCode, but it never actually asks for it. I've tried everything, the only thing that works is either getting them to manually do it over the phone (not acceptable for me considering the number of orders I make) or to use my Visa card (which I don't like to do since it's my personal card, supposed to use my business one).

I've tried to get help via NewEggs phone support, live chat, EggXpert admins, everything. The only real help has been my Mastercard provider telling me NewEgg isn't properly setup for SecureCode.

So - you're not alone. NewEggs been losing some of my business because of it, which is unfortunate - I love the site.

    Re: MasterCard Securecode Question

I'm very sorry about this problem everyone!

I'm going to see what I can do to have this investigated further; if you posted in this or other threads about a failed MC payment due to the Secure Code problem, we may contact you directly via email for more information.

I will let everyone know when I have more feedback!

    Best Regards,

    Re: MasterCard Securecode Question

It may depend on who the master card is through as well.

My friend used his mastercard through mbna and it asked for the secure code and seemed to go through.

My card is through credit union and it doesn't ask me for my secure code. Not sure if that matters.

    Re: MasterCard Securecode Question

    Thanks for the info wyldstallyn.

Mine's a PC Financial card FYI. But yeah I wouldn't be surprised if it depends on the actual provider as well, as I think it's up to them (not MC) whether to decline your card or not due to CVV issues.

    Re: MasterCard Securecode Question

    Hi Everyone,

Our Newegg.ca staff was aware of this issue, and they've informed me that a fix was implemented as of 8/4/09 (Tuesday).

If anyone still experiences the SecureCode problem, I can have it looked into further -- please document the occurance with screenshots and any other relevent data you think will help. Please don't share any personal information here on the open forum, but feel free to contact me directly via PM.

    Thank You!
    Best Regards,
    Paul

    Re: MasterCard Securecode Question

I've just run into the exact same problem with my PC Mastercard.  Went to place an order and PC Mastercard called to indicate it had been rejected because we didn't have Securecode setup.  We tried (and failed three times) to setup securecode (which is definitely a failing for PC Mastercard).  I tried calling the newegg callcenter (as per the online chat agents instructions) only to find it's closed (it says to call between 8 and 4 PST, which is is, but I suspect they mean 8-4 M-F.)

Altogether, I'm VERY frustrated with this whole experience.  I've normally dealt with other websites but wanted to give newegg a try because in this case I could save a few dollars.  A few dollars out of $3k isn't worth the frustration.

    Re: MasterCard Securecode Question

If you're having trouble setting up your identification for your card, you need to go to the company that sent you the card.. For me, it was my bank and somehow I ended up setting a password through the Visa website that was "too long" to go through my bank's website.. So even when I entered my password correctly, Visa accepted it but the bank rejected it..  It was REALLY annoying, but for me, I was still able to place orders and Visa said that there was nothing wrong with the account and I had the right password.. Took a long time for me to figure out, but eventually I just threw up my arms and told my bank to reset the password on the card..  Which took them a couple weeks, then I tried to turn the secure web ordering back on through the bank's website using the exact same password and it rejected my password because it was too long..

Created a different pin/password and then it worked perfectly.

These credit card security things are soooo broken...

With my Visa card, NewEgg let me place orders without the verified by Visa, but other websites wouldn't take it.. It's so confusing how it redirects to a page set up by your bank instead of Visa's website..  And it's a real pain in the rear, but once you get it all straightened out, you should be fine..

But usually I think the problem might not be Visa or mastercard, it's the company that sent you the card that's probably screwing up.

    Re: MasterCard Securecode Question

WereTiger, I think you're saying that you couldn't get SecureCode setup on your card... many sites (both Canadian and US sites) require this. In actuality, it's usually the card processor the company uses that requires it, so it's probably not even up to NewEgg.

If it's just one order and you'd still like to use NewEgg without getting your SecureCode properly setup, you should be able to call NewEgg support and they can manually run your card's information.

    Re: MasterCard Securecode Question

Just wanted to bump this up again... a recent order was declined again. I don't know for sure that it's the same reason, it could be that my CC company locked the card for some other reason. But has anyone else been having the problem with Securecode not showing up again? It didn't for me.

    Re: MasterCard Securecode Question

I have Securecode setup properly... up in this thread you can see that NewEgg found and fixed a problem with their site that wasn't calling up the Securecode prompt. It's been fine since. However, I recently put a purchase through, and the Securecode didn't prompt again... seems like the same problem, I could be wrong though.
