    Sound cutting out

Hi, I have been having a problem on my computer that I have never experienced before. I only notice it when I am listening to music, which I am doing most of the time, but it could be affected by other activities as well. There is an audible beep from the my speakers and then the sound cuts out and intermittently plays some scrambled garbage then stops altogether. Then a few minutes later it will be fine again.

I was thinking it was my soundcard which is a Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer (standard edition), so I uninstalled the drivers and device and sweeped them and installed new drivers to no avail. Same problem keeps popping up.

Any help regarding this would be much appreciated as always

    Thanks,

    Treble

    Re: Sound cutting out

The card could be going bad. Try to see if you can test it in another system. If it does the same thing, the card is bad.

Also, try testing your speakers. Either use another system or, if they just have a single green plug, connect it to an MP3 player or something like that and see what happens. If the problem still occurs, it's your speakers that are bad.

If neither, it could be the motherboard. I suspect the card is PCI (I've got a similar one) so if you've' got another PCI card, put it into that slot and see if it works.
