Hello, Need help with a Compaq

Im helping a friend out by fixing his computer but its gone alittle to far. it had a extreme virus that took over the whole system files. Now when i start the computer up all i see is the compaq screen then a black screen and never loads. Before it said i was missing a system file. He doesnt have windows xp cd. I been trying to load a illegal version to test it out but it doesn't work either. If i take out all memory it doesn't turn on at all. I don't know what it is anymore. Any help.I been thinking of loading my computer hard drive on it but doesn't seem to work.

Any suggestions. He has no money for an upgrade i mean serioiusly im dealing with a old cpu.... anyways help is appericiated.

Well if he doesn't have an orginal restore cd then there is nothing we can do to help you as we don't assist people that use illegal copies of software. That is a no no on here.

So for us to help you your friend needs to come up with a legal copy of xp,

It actually sounds to me that it could also be hardware related. If you don't get any post when you remove the memory then there is something else wrong in there.

You got three choices either get a legal copy of the OS and wipe his old HDD then load the OS, get a new HDD and try loading an OS or scrap it!!

You need the RAM aka memory in the slots for the computer to post.

Sounds to me that it died a big death. I personally wouldn't waste my time with it. I would tell him to use it as a boat anchor or a door stop as its pretty much dead..

Do you get an lights on the machine does the fans spin up?

Re: Hello, Need help with a Compaq

If the data is not that important, then I recommend you just format the HD and reinstall the OS, let's say yeah good luck you fix the problem, but sooner or later you will curse that slow system and at last you will reinstall the system.
