Newegg, Don't sell my personal info

I'm building a new rig and trying to purchase a cpu ... when I go to the shopping cart I see an addition of 6 "free" magazines added to my order.

According to customer support, there's no way I can purchase the cpu (AMD Phenom II X4 905e item #N82E16819103682) without them also selling my name and address to the magazine publisher.

I don't want junk mail for the next 10 years ... I made that mistake with TigerDirect several years ago and i'm still paying for it.

For this system I won't be buying the gear from newegg.

<rant>I hope this message gets passed on to whatever genious decided it was a good idea to start selling our personal info to magazine publishers. </rant>

Re: Newegg, Don't sell my personal info

They don't actually sign you up for the magazine. In your box will be a post card sized piece of paper with a coupon code for a free 6 month subscription if you want to call the mag or visit their site and sign up for it.

You might try (re-)reading the post before throwing out insults.  I talked to customer service before posting this.

Re: Newegg, Don't sell my personal info

I don't see what I need to re-read. You are still flat out wrong, newegg is not giving anyone your info. I just received 2 of the coupon codes when ordering a few am3 955s. They are identical to the coupons my friend got with his 965 no personal info involved.

So you asked newegg if they could send you the cpu without the coupon and they said no. You still were just assuming that they were signing you up to a mag without your consent. If you want to never shop at newegg again for them doing nothing but sending you a coupon then be my guest.

My intent was not to insult you and I apologize if it came across that way. It is very important that you have all your facts straight before posting such claims that may be taken as facts by people who are too lazy to read all of the posts.

Re: Newegg, Don't sell my personal info

In all the years that I have been doing business with Newegg, I have not once recieved any spam, junk mail, or any other sort of marketing contact. Why?

Because they don't sell the info.

Concur with last 2, you are not obliged to actually USE the coupons/codes that come with the CPU.

Alternative for the paranoid: YOU COULD PICK ANOTHER CPU, GENIUS.

Re: Newegg, Don't sell my personal info

Thanks everyone for your helpful answers. Some or all of you should be customer support for newegg, since Stephen, the guy who actually works for newegg CS told me I couldn't get the cpu without the magazines (no mention of coupon when I expressed my concern about my private info).

Special thanks to "CheapAsianGamerGuy", whose answer I marked as correct, since his was the rudest of the answers. Though really any of you could have won on that front, so keep up the good work!

Free Magazine OEM Gift Item: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16800995076

Wow, what part of COUPON did you not see in the picture???? You *LITERALLY DID NO RESEARCH* before ACCUSING NEWEGG OF SELLING YOUR PRIVATE INFO (which Newegg DOES NOT DO), then you expect politeness????

Close Up Photo: http://c1.neweggimages.com/NeweggImage/productimage/00-995-076-03.jpg "To begin receiving your monthly issues, simply go to http://www.cpumag.com/newegg and fill out the form."

Yeah you asked if it was possible to not get the magazines, and the CS rep knows that the free gift coupon sku / item # cannot be unbound from the CPU sku/ item # until the promotion is over, so his answer was "no", but ORDERING THIS ITEM DOES NOT MEAN YOUR PERSONAL INFO ON NEWEGG'S SYSTEMS GOES TO ANYONE, because as stated, this is a COUPON REDEMPTION OFFER.

Some of us call it "keepin it REAL".

btw, learn how to spell "Genius", GENIUS.
