Password issue

Ok heres the story hope someone can help. My girlfriends dad passed away and left one of the sisters a mac the white kind. (i dont know much i am pc guy). No one knows the admin password to install updates is there any way to find out or reset it.

Need to know what version operating system, and hopefully the model of the PC. (or atleast when it was bought)

can google how to find out what operating system.
