Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

Since nobody is certain that we will get the cash back from Paypal even if we supposedly ordered "in time", can we do the following?

    1. Hold shipping (upon customer's request) until Paypal pays.  Accept cancellation any time during this period.

    2. Free returns (NewEgg provides free shipping label) of unopened products if Paypal doesn't pay by the due date in January.

This should be a good compromise.  The customers will be inconvenienced but won't be scammed, NewEgg might end up with a bunch of returns and must pay for their shipping, but the products are unopened, there will be less order cancellations, and most of all, customers will be protected from this fiasco.

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

I got the same information that PayPal doesn't know anything about NewEgg ended the promotion. They still confirmed me the same policy.

The 20% cash back offer period began on November 26, 2007 at 12:00:01 am
Pacific Time and is available for a limited time only. The 20% cash back
promotion is only available as long as the merchant's website indicates
or no later than December 10, 2007 11:59:59 pm Pacific Time.

I don't know if they lied but I smells fishy from both PayPal and NewEgg.

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

I haven't been given first class support. I have had to quit the chat session several times in the last couple months after my screen had the all support people are busy message from top to bottom. THe easiest and simplest thing to do to fix this? Newegg needs to give open the offer on their dime to everyone, not just the people who got their order in. I didn't get to order because the deal was closed hours before the specified end date. Newegg needs to, at the very least, be honest and open about their error. Yes, their error. It was their responsibilty to state that the offer was limited to a certain amount of money.  I'm tired of this conversation. I'm going to order my video card now....from zipzoomfly.

     Good luck everyone!

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

I dunno, I normally buy from zipzoomfly [googlegear], but this 20% off deal from newegg seemed like a good way to go [and I made my purchase on Monday night].  I also went to the site via paypal's link, and even got ANOTHER e-mail today with newegg on the list with 20% off [or up to $50 or whatever they promised].

I really hope that we can get to some sort of compromise.  I sincerely think paypal screwed newegg, because I don't think newegg would alienate their customer base like this.  I'm hoping for the best.  don't prove me wrong, newegg!

p.s. another idea that could help is if they give like free expedited shipping or something on the products.  sure it's not $50 or 20% [in MOST cases], but at least it's an act of good faith.  I honestly can't see them giving away a bunch of free stuff [although that would be rock-sauce too].

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

    CheapAsianGamerGuy:

OK  Tuksonrider, so what you're saying is, you read the fine print (copied above) and went for the deal knowing you were not among "the first" to try to take advantage of it, hoping and expecting that not enough had clicked BUY before you to void the deal, *ON WHAT MOST PEOPLE AGREE IS THE BUSIEST INTERNET SHOPPING DAY OF THE YEAR.*

    Sounds logical to me.

Oh, and did you miss the part in my post about "It's not that easy to change graphics and notifications on 100+ Web and Database servers"?

Oh, and email was sent at 3am Monday morning. I didn't get mine until 8am tuesday morning. Blame Newegg or Internet Gods?

In everyone's defense, the situation DOES suck. I have it on good authority that Newegg Senior Management is meeting right NOW to decide what to do for all (affected) customers. Excpect some sort of news/firm decision/announcement to be made today.

I placed my order yestarday afternoon. I read the print on the flyer, made clear of the stipulation which was a max payout of $50. Fine, I wasn't ordering enough to get more than $50, not a problem. I also realized that the deal was more through Paypal giving out the refund through approved vendors, which newegg being one. So I waited until I heard something from paypal or newegg that the deal went through and I got a refund.

Also, it wouldn't have been a big deal to put in a retraction to the offer on their site or send out a mass email to eveyone on the email list... as YOU SAID... knowing that it's the busiest internet shopping day, they have the money and experience to have some foresight to be ready with a mass mailer and an update to the websevers saying the deal is over.

    Sounds logical to me.

"Cash back offer valid until 11/28/2007 and while supplies last. Use of any promo code is limited to one (1) offer per order and product. Promo codes may not be applied to multiple products within the same order or to more than one (1) item of the same product.

To receive 20% cash back on your purchase amount (including shipping and taxes), use your PayPal account to make purchases on participating merchant websites by selecting PayPal as a payment option beginning November 26, 2007.  Offer is available for a limited time only, as long as the merchant’s website indicates that the 20% cash back promotion is offered, but no later than December 10, 2007. Multiple purchases are allowed.  Maximum total amount of cash back per PayPal account is $50 USD.  Certain exclusions apply. Only United States PayPal accounts in good standing are eligible. The cash back payment will be deposited into your PayPal account by January 31, 2008. See terms and conditions for complete details of offer."

Based on the above disclaimer, NewEgg does not, has not,  NEVER WILL BE OBLIGATED TO TAKE A LOSS BECAUSE ALL YOU COMPLAINERS WANT SOMETHING BELOW COST.

*SOME* people are getting the $50 from  Paypal (not Newegg). That was the promo after all.

Newegg did not communicate the end of the promo properly. (True, but you try updating 100+ servers. Honestly. You try. Without downing anything else. Live. On a national level e-commerce web site. Really, now, you have no idea, so lay off the updates, that they could even change their banner on the SAME DAY makes Newegg BETTER THAN DELL)

Newegg did not even communicate the limits of the promo within ther pwn staff. (True, not contesting.)

Based on the current situation, Newegg is obligated at best to let you cancel your order penalty-free. Let's face it, if you don't want it without the rebate, then  YOU DON'T WANT IT. And if you WANT the rebate... like I said, stay up late and get in line, chum, 20% / $50 rebates don't grow on trees.

To everyone else who feels this is unfair or a conspiracy etc etc etc... have you ever worked for a National-level e-commerce company before? Thousands of transactions per day? Hundreds of servers? How easy is it to affect change. If any of you were "ripped off" like this like I was by Dell, would Dell even care?

Newegg *IS* listening to you. They are trying to take care of this - despite everyone's downright greedy sense of entitlement, I might add. (Since when is a company obligated to sell you something at below cost? Huh?) All they ask is some time. And yet, the complaining continues...

Newegg.com had the promotion still on the website as late as 6PM EST

Sure "While supplies last" but once again, one could easily infer that "while supplies last" must mean as long as newegg.com is showing the promotion then it's still valid. How was anyone who visited newegg.com and ordered while the promo was still listed on newegg.com to know any differently?

I agree. A FULL refund, NO shipping charges, NO restocking fee. If it hasn't been shipped yet, then able to cancel the order past "step 3". If it has shipped out, then it can be sent back without charge to the customer.

The biggest inconvience for me would be driving to the UPS store to drop off the package to return to sender.

Lets just finish this conversation okay, point is newegg is going out of their way to fix something that really wasnt their problem.  Yes there was miscommunication, but that happens.  I wonder if all the people complaining today complained to paypal as well? They should, and should have started there not with newegg.

Like CAGG said while supplies last, that says it all.

    Discussion over.

Again, there was no indication that the "supply" of 20% rebates were exhausted during the order process.

If it was a video card, cpu, etc, you are notified right away that it's "out of stock". And if you still placed your order, you aren't charged until it is in stock. Also, at any time, you can cancel your order during a "pre-order".

With the 20% rebate "supply", no indicator, and they went ahead and charged you anyway even though the rebate was "out of stock".

    Once again

"Offer is available for a limited time only, as long as the merchant’s website indicates that the 20% cash back promotion is offered, but no later than December 10, 2007."

Is the same thing as while supplies last. It was Newegg's responsibility to pull the promo from the webpage as soon as those "supplies" were exhausted, they didn't, simple as that.  According to every CSR you speak to they knew this as early as 12PM PST, the promotion was still listed and thus still valid according to the terms and conditions until the offer was taken off of Newegg's website.

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

Supplies ran out, you were too late. I was too late. Newegg's too popular, etc etc etc...

Yeah it took them far too long to take down the notices, and that's why they're trying to take care of us.

Is DELL going to do anything of the sort? No. And I expect they're laughing at me.

Let's be clear, Sandspur. THE POINT OF THESE REBATE PROMOS, from a Marketing perspective (Marketing 101 here) is to generate FAR MORE SALES than the promo actually pays out, to "pay for itself". Paypal gets a small fee for every transaction, and while they "gave away" a set amount of $50 promo rebates, it was "paid for" in the sheer # of transactions Newegg and other online retailers generated for Paypal. Newegg, Paypal,  all the other merchants on the list, are in business to make money, not give everyone rebates. That's why as an experienced online shopper I did not count on this. (The more popular the shop, the faster it runs out). If you think you are obligated to anything advertised at any shop or store or e-commerce web site just because a "splash page" or "sign" is up, you are sorely deluded.

If you really don't want the items, complain to NewEgg and I am sure they are goign to let you cancel your order or hit you with a credit anyway, but that's 'cuz newegg cares.

Having worked a small retail shop before, I can honestly say, most retail merchants would laugh at your arguements.

    Why not agree to disagree?

At this point, it would be foolish to think any of you can change the other person's mind since we've all picked our sides.

You either think Newegg is the next MS, Newegg could have done better, or Newegg wasn't to blame. And you are either going to stop shopping at Newegg or continue to.

Either way, I hope you stick around EggXpert and don't troll.

    It takes some time to:

    1. Internal communications within Newegg to get the banner made
    2. Create the banner
    3. Update the hundreds of servers that host that 1 site you see

They got the rug pulled out from under them. If you think about the logistics behind it all, they did good at bouncing back.
