Delta makes A LOT of psu's. Their lower end new psu's (such as the dps-400rb) are tier 2 or 3 material. Not that impressive. Delta is higher on the built quality latter than seasonic at all levels though with their high end units. They make units even better than the Signature series that are only available to OEM's. Supermicro/Ablecom is harder to find reviews for, but simply look up the UL number on one and you will find that out. Lite-on makes very high end power supplies for a lot of OEM servers.

Re: Eggxpert Tiered Power Supply List

Well, this list is for the brands you'll see on the power supplies being sold, not the manufacturers of the power supplies. It's great that Delta makes high-quality units for other companies(and lower-quality units for other companies), but how do their self-branded power supplies hold up?

What models does Delta offer(under their own brand), and where do you think each of these models belongs on the list?  Do you know of reviews of Delta-branded power supplies?  If not, do you know which Delta PSU platforms were used to make other brand power supplies(that have been reviewed), and on which Delta-brand power supplies these same platforms are used?

Any information you can provide would be very helpful.  Sorry I can't do more to help right now, I'm quite busy at the moment.

I looked up a couple of reviews.  Both Anandtech and JonnyGuru.com have reviewed it, giving it excellent scores.  The only real downside was some messy soldering(which doesn't affect the consumer).

For excellent clean voltage regulation, very high efficiency, and the plethora of connectors provided, I think that this power supply belongs in Tier 1.  Of course, if you feel that this is not a good placement, we can discuss it.

I don't see any good reviews for those power supplies yet.  There are a couple of reviews where they plug it into a computer(looks like it draws around 300-400watts max with the load they're giving it), and check voltages at load and idle, but those aren't exactly useful.

Silent PC Review did a couple reviews on some of their other units, which performed very nicely.  So, based on that, I'd guess that these new higher wattage units are also good.

Here are the good reviews that I found:

Well, that Antec is a fine unit.  Some other units with similar quality and price are the BFG LS 1000watt power supply, and the Cooler Master Real Power Pro 1000watt power supply.  Those are both good quality Enhance-built units, but neither has modular cables, like the Antec does.

Re: Eggxpert Tiered Power Supply List

Does anything make one stand out above the others or do they all preform about the same? The modular cables arnt as important to me as performance. I may go with the cooler master because of the 6 pci express connectors so I won't have to run any adapters if I go tri sli or add a gpu for physics.

Thanks for the quick responce! Yes

Re: Eggxpert Tiered Power Supply List

Well, it seems that XFX is starting things off with a bang.  Their new XFX Black Edition 850watt power supply just went through the trials of JonnyGuru.com, and laughed.

What other power supply can put out its full rated wattage with voltage regulation across all the rails at 1% or better running on intake air temperatures of 41°C?

Throw in a fan that makes almost no audible noise at any load level, modular cables, and power coming out so clean that you can hardly take a reading on the ripple.

Plus, they've stuffed it into a black and green casing that really doesn't look like any other power supply on the market.

What does that give us?  A new Tier 1 power supply.

Congratulations XFX.  Let's see if Corsair will retaliate.

Those next gen GPU's aren't exactly looking to be fuel sippers.  You may still want to go for a 1000watt.

Also no word yet on the power draw of the AMD/ATI 5000-series graphics cards, which are expected to be released next week. Might be worth a short wait to see the numbers, as there will probably be a lot of benchmarking & test results publicized as the hardware is made available.

Re: Eggxpert Tiered Power Supply List

The XFX review is impressive, save for the price, $209.99 plus shipping, the Corsair 850HX, one of the models JG alludes to as same score PSUs, is less. 199. shipped, and less when I got it. Plus me thinks one will have to be really inclined to go with that XFX motif, lol, but sure a number of folks will like it.

I;d like to see the price come down though.

Re: Eggxpert Tiered Power Supply List

The Corsair 850HX is a Channel Well manufactured power supply, based on the DSG platform.

The XFX 850watt is a Seasonic manufactured power supply, based on the M12D platform.

The PC P&C 910watt Silencer is a Seasonic manufactured power supply, based on the M12D platform, and it costs about the same as the XFX unit.

That Corsair is certainly a nice unit, but the voltage regulation isn't quite as good, and neither is the efficiency at low loads.  The Corsair does look to be the better value currently, but I'd have to say that the XFX does edge it out for performance.

Of course, when they're both this good, the small differences found in the review would make absolutely no difference to your computer hardware, and only minimal difference to your power bill.   If you really wanted good low-wattage efficiency, you'd get a BFG.

Re: Eggxpert Tiered Power Supply List

    Thanks for posting links.

Hmm, after reading through the JonnyGuru.com review, I think that this power supply may not be quite good enough for Tier 2.  When crossloaded for either heavy 3.3/5v or 12v, it goes out of spec.  Clearly it has a group regulated design, and it's not tuned as well as other group regulated power supplies(like the Rosewill RX series).

The filtering is good, efficiency is decent overall, and excellent at low loads(which is where a computer spends most of its time), and it has a single 12v rail(which can't supply acceptable voltages at full load unless the 3.3v and 5v rails are loaded up heavily as well).

I'm thinking Tier 3.  Does anyone else have an opinion?

Well the reviews on Newegg were good, and I picked it up for ~$40 with a HAF 932 combo (<$190 shipped) so I was wondering if it was going to deliver.

After reading the reviews on Newegg, this pushed me to buy it.

I figured $40 for a decent modular power supply wasn't bad, but I checked on here and it wasn't on the list. Confused

Re: Eggxpert Tiered Power Supply List

After reading that last review I would shy away from it considering this. I really do not want to chance a PSU that’s a pull apart at the housing. But that is my take on it. So tier 3 or 4 IMO.

http://www.elitebastards.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=582&Itemid=27&limitstart=1 <-- second to last shows it comeing apart.

Unfortunately, despite being a brand new sample, our particular Silent Pro M600 unit showed signs of these silicon housings coming away from the many body of the power supply due to what appears to be some inadequate glue.  Although it isn't bad enough to affect the operation of the unit in as much as these silicon housings didn't fall off, it isn't really the kind of thing you want to see from a new product and it's disappointing given the otherwise good build quality of the part.
