Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this one

There is one post in this thread (after the original) which makes sense.  You should read it above several notches.  The post is labeled as " 212433 in reply to 212430 ".  It is by NoWayOut and starts with "There was a domino effect of mass confusion ..."

You see, as the original post in the entire thread points out, it is hoped that a lesson is learned by NewEgg in all of this.  Efforts by some to skirt the issue and divert the blame from NewEgg on any point are ridiculous.  (Even the original poster says he will continue to do business with NewEgg, so relax...)

YES, NEWEGG . IS . TO . BLAME . for a very poorly executed mass mailer, sent by NewEgg, not PayPal.
YES, NEWEGG . IS . TO . BLAME . for being unprepared and uncoordinated on how to handle it when they (NewEgg) reached their own promotion limits.
YES, NEWEGG . IS . TO . BLAME . for extending the confusion by misinformation, changing mailer graphics, changing website graphics, etc.
YES, NEWEGG . ALSO . GETS . CREDIT . for trying to sort out the issue one customer at a time at this point.  You can see this in posts above, too.  It is pretty obvious that NewEgg is the largest e-tailer of computer components, it is hardly a conspiracy that this mess has caused many new eggxpert forum joins!  Again to NewEgg's credit, the existence of this forum uncorrupted as I see it so far, lets those new forum joiners (and customers new and old) that they are trying to work through this thing.

A post-Thanksgiving nod ... be thankful if you do not work for the company.  These last two days have surely been an unconsolable headache from the top dude down.

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

    Yeah, sandspur, totally right.

Except this isn't a car dealership.

    And we're not talking financing.

And the terms are clearly spelled out on Paypal and Newegg, that is is a WHILE SUPPLIES LAST promo.

Was I the only person who read the "I agree to Newegg's terms and conditions" when I clicked "Create Account" and every time I click "Buy"?

What part of "Depending on Rebates for your shopping choices is a BAD IDEA" did you miss?

What you are really complaining about is that Newegg didn't take down their promo signs when the promo ran out. Do YOU know how easy that it for a national electronic retailer with about 100+ servers in various configurations? This is not a retail store that can just take a sign down. Get real. The sites are down most of today just TRYING to correct that. HAPPY?

If you REALLY want to be part of THE SELECT GROUP taking full advantage of this promo, while it lasts, do what the hard-core shoppers did. Stay up ALL NIGHT getting your orders in before it runs out. Yes, it *RAN OUT*, NEWEGG NEVER PULLED OUT OF THIS PROMO, anyone who says they did (Paypal customer service) LIED.

And to the ppl who are asking about making the deal last until they get off work... WTH? It's a limited promotion, I stayed up late the night before to help RELEASE the deal, and *I* didn't get to take advantage of it. Is that fair?

No, but ya know, life just isn't sometimes. Wah.

I still spend my $ on Newegg just the same, because I know they'll still TRY to take care of me. Go where thou wilt, but my $ stays here.

Thank you for your incite, CAGG!

Just for reference Paypal did send out a mass mailer more than just newegg on its list. Newegg was not the only one to run our of funds Dell did too :)

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

I think people are over reacting a little bit. Newegg is still a great site. I'm glad that I'm dealing with their customer service dept instead of Dell's or Amazon's which is basically a human reading computer generated answers. Is it a mess, yes. Hopefully Newegg stops all promotional deals with Paypal from now on. Blame Ebay!!

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

I agree with much of what was said.  I specifically read the terms of the deal because I don't trust PayPal, but on both PayPal and Newegg's end, it seemed to be reputable.  I'm not sure if I will get my 20% back or not, but I believe that either way, Newegg will work it out somehow in my favor.  They have never done me wrong and as I already was planning on purchasing the order I made, the promo from my inbox that morning was merely an added bonus.

I can sympathize with the people that feel wronged by the deal, but I think we should wait it out a few more days and let Newegg sort it out with Paypal's shady business dealings.

Newegg, you rock, and I hope you come out on top of all this.

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

On one hand, they say 11/26-11/28. On the other hand, they say "while supplies last". I've never before heard of "supplies" referring to funding in this context. "Supplies" has always referred to product stock. I believe it is a dodge to say supplies = funds. But that is neither here or there.

"This offer is for a limited time, but we won't remove your ability to order or tell you that it ended" is not responsible business either. Anybody that was given a run-around with their orders, or outright screwed because they're not going to be properly credited with the cash-back offer are due some kind of make-good offer from someone.

As I said, I think everybody that made a PayPal order after 12 pm pst should be eligible for something. I suspect NewEgg will try to fix it somehow because the PR hell from the "Deal" and Hardware sites could be nasty.

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

This has been a very confusing ordeal.  I tried to order a few various items over the last couple of days including this morning and was confused over the "does the 20% apply to this item or all items" scenario.  I figured I just wait it out and see what was going on and now it appears dead.  :(  I thought they originally said December 8th or something like that for the expiration?  Anyway, I guess I missed out on the promo.  I am not normally a big fan of PayPal but for 20% it would have been worth it.

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

When I placed my order hoping to get the 20% rebate, NO WHERE did it say, "STOP! The deal has ended". Neither on Neweggs site or through out the purchasing.

I went through the entire thing thinking I'll get the rebate at some point. Nope, not a thing. Had it said, "Stop, the deal is over", I would have stopped.

Now the order is placed, my paypal charged, my funds gone, and I'm left buying something I normally wouldn't have if I had known the deal was over.

    You got me newegg. Congrats

OK  Tuksonrider, so what you're saying is, you read the fine print (copied above) and went for the deal knowing you were not among "the first" to try to take advantage of it, hoping and expecting that not enough had clicked BUY before you to void the deal, *ON WHAT MOST PEOPLE AGREE IS THE BUSIEST INTERNET SHOPPING DAY OF THE YEAR.*

    Sounds logical to me.

Oh, and did you miss the part in my post about "It's not that easy to change graphics and notifications on 100+ Web and Database servers"?

Oh, and email was sent at 3am Monday morning. I didn't get mine until 8am tuesday morning. Blame Newegg or Internet Gods?

In everyone's defense, the situation DOES suck. I have it on good authority that Newegg Senior Management is meeting right NOW to decide what to do for all (affected) customers. Excpect some sort of news/firm decision/announcement to be made today.

    wiggens7:

Why do you guys not listen to my post and go talk to them.  Newegg will give you a $50 credit back on your card, regardless what you bought.  I don't know why you guys are ignoring it and bit ching so much.  Just DO IT.

They would only give me a credit of $25. The part that ticked me off is I was trying to do the Paypal transaction since 9AM EST, every time it errored out. Then when I contact them via the live chat, and mention the paypal deal, almost instantly a big message saying the deal was over popped up.

It sounds like Newegg is paying part of the Paypal promotion, it started to get too costly to do it any longer. So likely, some higher up in Newegg made up the email story about Paypal ending the promotion. Why would Paypal just end the promotion with only Newegg? Other sites are still running it, suspicious perhaps? The reps you talk to can be simply clueless, wouldn't surprise me with big businesses these days. Sure the Paypal reps can be clueless too, though the two I talked to say Paypal is still running the promotion.

I understand that this is not the same thing, what I was doing is making a comparison.  Is it I as a consumer's fault that Newegg/Paypal ended the promotion abruptly?  Yes the terms of the offer were limited, but does that somehow negate the fact that the over was still actively being promoted on both Newegg and Paypal? How was I as a consumer to know that the promotion had ended, especially considering that every page I visited still showed the promotion as valid?

If it were not for the fact that several forums indicated that the promotion was over at nearly 6PM EST I would have not had a clue that it had ended.  Come Jan 31. I would have been expecting a $50 credit just as I'm sure thousands of other people will be as well.

Newegg knew at 12PM PST that the offer was over and yet for well over 3 hours the promo was still active

"Was I the only person who read the "I agree to Newegg's terms and conditions" when I clicked "Create Account" and every time I click "Buy"?"

The terms at the time of my order were that it included a 20% cash back rebate, simple as that.  Here see for yourself. I agreed whole heartedly to newegg's terms and conditions

     http://s155.photobucket.com/albums/s283/foojay/?action=view&current=newegg5.jpg

"What part of "Depending on Rebates for your shopping choices is a BAD IDEA" did you miss?"

Actually rebates are very good for shopping choices, I've bought tens of thousands of dollars worth of items that included rebates, I've sent off well over 100 rebates, you know how many of those I've never received?  Not a single one, as long as you abide by the terms and conditions of the rebates, the company is LEGALLY bound to provide you with those funds.  Sure on several occasions it's taken BBB complaints and calls to the local attorney general, but in the end the $ that was rightfully mine was paid.

"What you are really complaining about is that Newegg didn't take down their promo signs when the promo ran out. This is not my problem and any retailer worth their salt, should know these issues upfront.  I can't begin to tell you how many times I've visited a website that offered a product at a substantially reduced cost due to a pricing error, so what makes Newegg any different than say a Best Buy or Office Depot who within hours noticed there was an issue and either removed the item from their webpages or changed to price to reflect the actual price

"If you REALLY want to be part of THE SELECT GROUP taking full advantage of this promo, while it lasts, do what the hard-core shoppers did. Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

As I stated elsewhere. I didn't get the chance to order before the promotion ended. By the time I got home from work the banner stating the offer had ended was pasted over the graphic saying the offer was until the 28th. That said I am out nothing and the only thing I expect from NewwEgg is a detailed explanation of what happened, why it happened, and what they will do to prevent this in the future? I feel bad for the customer service reps. They are taking the heat for poor planing on someone elses part.

What...? It's not the customer's problem that NewEgg has a lot of servers to update and/or or can't adequately warn customers of an expired deal. Nor is NewEgg an innocent victim of random forces in the process.

This whole line of argument is just a little too silly, even for the sake of defending them.

Darlene: I just spoke to our eggzpert department and they confirmed that they are not honoring the $50 discount.
    Darlene: *eggxpert
Andy: so the people who ordered are not getting anything basically?

The orders that were submitted while the offer was valid are going to get the $50 cash back from Paypal.

A mass email describing the situation would be a nice idea. Another great idea, would to actually honor all the purchases made on 11/26 that got the 20% paypal promotion in the the billing screen. if you want to end the promotion, that's fine, but at least honor the promotion that was promised at purchase. It makes it worse that there hasn't been a single email about this. Think of the tons of people that have NO idea they won't be getting there discount. Can you imagine how p****d they will be?
