    Ram compatibility problem

Hey there. I recently purchased an ASUS p5QL Pro mobo, with has the Intel P43 Northbridge. I'm intending to use it in a gaming/coding system for college. Rather stupidly, I also bought 4 GB of RAM from G.Skill which expressly states in the description that only the X38, P35, 965, and 975 intel chipsets are supported. Is there any possibility that this RAM will function or am I going to have to RMA it for a different brand/type? If so, what RAM should I get instead (around the same price)?

    Thanks in advance,

    Max

that is probably just the chipsets that g skill tested the ram with, the ram should work.

    Re: Ram compatibility problem

weired. if the p35 and p965 could support the ram, the p43 should be fine. so you can contact the manufacturer to make sure. some of the descriptions are weird. lol

    Re: Ram compatibility problem

This motherboard supports ddr2 1066, and the ram you choose is also ddr2 1066.

Therefore, it can be used with this mobo. Memory only needs to match the Requirements

Specification of the motherboard. If it does, any brand is ok to choose.

But you’d better pay attention to the voltage of the ram when it is working. If it doesn’t

match the default voltage of the mobo, you need enter BIOS to make configuration.

    Re: Ram compatibility problem

Ok so i've put most of the components together except that I'm missing a power adaptor for my video card. I plugged the system in and booted it up with only half power to the video card to see what would happen. After a few moments, both the hdd and pwr leds came on, and I got 4 system beeps, a pause and then another system beep. What do these beeps mean? Could it be an indication of video card failure?

If the video card doesn't get enough power, it won't display anything and the system will beep an error code stating there's a problem. I'm willing to  bet your video card is the problem. Make sure everything is seated properly, and get both connectors on that video card.

I don't mean to make you feel bad, but this is why I recommend that people ask around before buying computer parts.

    Re: Ram compatibility problem

As for what the beeps mean, it is different for every motherboard bios.  You'd have to find out from the manufacturer what the error codes are, but dollars to donuts its telling you that it cannot properly communicate witht he video card.

    Re: Ram compatibility problem

yeah man, there's no such thing as "running a video card at half power".

It either has enough power to initialize, or it does not and won't pass power on self test.

Your RAM however shoudl work fine.

    Re: Ram compatibility problem

thanks for the help, I looked up the error code with the manufacturer and you were right, the error code means that there is no video card connection. I'll post again once i get the adapter installed to let you know if it finally works.
