a rumor goes round that Nvidia is about to exist the chipset business. So far, DFI, Foxconn and Gigabyte has decided not to release the nForce 790i SLI chipset-based mainboards and removed the 780i SLI-based platforms from their web-sites. so how could you sli in the future? confusing.

i don't think it is true. if so, the video card segments will decline too.
nVidia is actually moving away from chipset business when the new intel socket comes out.
Though they are letting intel use SLI on the X58 chipset.
