    Ram or MOBO??

    Alright...first of all, let me jsut provide links to my memory, CPU, and MOBO.

    Momory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820220161

    Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103254

    MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138117

    Now, the problem(s):

    I got all my parts on yesterday to build my comp.  Everything went together VERY smooth and I had no problems with putting all the parts in.

    Well, I plugged everything in and went into the BIOS to flash it (this MOBO allows you to simply flash from a USB flashdrive).

    Did that and made sure my HD and CD drive was reading properly from SATA and all and checked on memory timings etc.

     This is where the problems start...first of all, I had to input the timings myself (the timings the MOBO read were way off from the 5-5-5-15 2T the RAM calls for.

    Also, the bios was reading RANDOM ammounts of RAM. NOT the 4 gigs I installed.

    At first we thought the memory was bad...until we noticed that the BIOS was not saving for some reason...even after saving everything and going back on...the BIOS was jsut going to default settings...

    To rule out the memory I put all 4 GIGS in my sisters computer and it reads all 4 GIGS right off the bat.

    I'm sending the MOBO back to get another one...I'm really hoping it's jsut faulty and we have figured out the problem. But, I've heard that with Phenom processors you gotta mess with memory timings and all kinda other c**p to get them to run properly and stable.

    Can anyone help me out with this whole ordeal??

    Re: Ram or MOBO??

    When I first get a motherboard, I always clear the CMOS before doing anything else. This is just a precautionary step because they test the motherboards (least they are supposed to) and I always like for the motherboard to think that me using it is the first time it's been used. So clear the CMOS once you get the board in then only put one stick of memory in, load up into the BIOS and see if reads correctly. If so, put each stick in one by one testing each one to make sure it's still OK. Once that has completed and everything is OK, then you can flash the BIOS but make sure the battery is in the motherboard (not dislodged), the BIOS you have on your flash drive is newer, you do NOT plug the flash drive into a HUB, and the BIOS is not corrupt on either the motherboard already or the flash drive.

    Can you walk me through clearing the CMOS? I'm new to building and all.

    And also, should I reflash after clearing the CMOS or after I do all the other stuff?
