    Windows XP & VISTA dilemma

    Hello to all,

I'm in a predicament. I'm attempting to multi boot with VISTA in a SATA drive and XP Prof. in a PATA drive.I'm taking an A+PLUS course to learn to fix hardware and software to help myself and my friends who can't afford paid support. I'm going through the lessons and getting so much out of them but some things I fail to comprehend and I need help, lots of help. Mercy!

1.- Originally I had XP in the PATA and no SATA.

2.- Then I got VISTA ULTIMATE Upgrade and a WD SATA from New Egg.

3.- I connected the SATA and I attempted to upgrade from XP Prof but it didn't let me do it.

4.- I proceeded to do a clean install of VISTA from the DVD and succeeded to a point for my problems with XP began.

5.- After installing VISTA, XP refuse to boot. Granted I had 4 HDDs connected so I disconnected all but the XP DRIVE.

6.- I attempted to boot my XP but it refused to boot giving me the same message, "NTLDR not found Couldn't open drive multi (0) disc...etc.

7.- After many attempts to repair that XP and failures, finally I decided to format the drive and start from scracht. Setup only got to copy the XP files and refused to continue with the setup it kept giving me the same message, "NTLDR not found...etc." I tried several times with same results.

8.-I read that to multiboot XP needs th FAT32 so I fomatted the PATA to FAT32, attempted to install with same results.

9.- After many failures I plugged that PATA to my recovery computer and was able to finally install XP service pk 1.

10.- It worked fine in my recovery computer, but, when I plugged it back to my computer it no longer boot up, as I expected. But I had hoped it would boot to F8 so I could trouble shoot, well it wont.

11.-My PC specs are at the moment:

Windows VISTA ULTIMATE SERV. PK 1, Intel Pentium D CPU 3.00GB, 2 GB RAMand Standard VGA graphics adpater, 1 SATA dive C, 2 PATAs, one with XP the other with data files, a PATA external and a Memory stick.

12.-Now my question and request is this, does any XP eggxpert do remote assistance? If so, please, I desperately need to learn these things for the benefit of many others.

    Thanks,

Here is a link to dual booting that may help! However I have run into too many problems when mixing SATA & PATA HDD's it seems to work better with one or the other.Cool

Re: Windows XP & VISTA dilemma

Oh how have you blessed me with this link! You are a blessing! I have gone bonks multi-booting all kinds of combinations and troubleshooting all kinds of situations successfully, including a drive crash! That Easy BCD it's no doubt a cybernetic miracle and it's free! HalleluYah! You have no idea how long I have been looking for such a program. Actually the trouble was that I didn't know what I was looking for until I started taking the online course that I been taking, only problem is that it only covers up to XP and I am working in VISTA now. But, by fiddling and learning from this link I really grasped all about the importance of connecting your drives in the right cables and how PATA and SATA can work together, and much more that I been reading in that course! And I love VISTA I can't hardly believe all you can do with any program if you take the time to learn and take advantage of all its potential.

    Thanks again,
