    HELP!.... again

A couple months ago I completed my first solo computer build. Had some initial problems but eventually got it to start up and run. Gave it to my sister since it was for her, and she told me she was getting a blue screen with a message about a fatal error and windows needing to shut down. I went to check it out and all it does now is report a disk error. I recently had a disk error on my personal pc and had to reinstall windows. I never got a blue screen before that though. Should i just reinstall windows, or is this a bigger problem than that. I never got to see the blue error screen so I have no idea what it actually said.

Here are the specs for her pc:

LG 20X DVD±R Super Multi DVD Burner Black ATAPI / E-IDE Model GSA-H55NK

    WINTEC AMPO 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model 3AMD2667-2G2K-R

    MSI NX8400GS-TD256E GeForce 8400 GS 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card

ASUS P5VD2-VM SE LGA 775 VIA P4M900 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

    Intel Pentium 4 631 Cedar Mill 3.0GHz LGA 775 86 (775_VR_CONFIG_05A) 65 (775_VR_CONFIG_06) Single-Core Processor Model BX80552631

EXCELSTOR Jupiter Series ESJ8080S 80GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Thanks in advance for any help!

    Re: HELP!.... again

I would definitely do a SMART analysis on that Excelstor hard drive. They're not the best quality drives, and are prone to driving people nuts.

If you can boot the PC up, pull the drive and pop it in a another box to test, with PC Wizard, Speedfan, one of the drive SMARTs. If you can boot it up, you can always try a chkdsk, see if it helps any. I'd be surprised though if it wasnt that Excelstor though.

    Peace, PEnewah!

if i have to replace the hard drive, what would you suggest me purchasing? 80GB is more than enough for the use that computer will get.

    Re: HELP!.... again

    I wuold recommend either

    or

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822135106

both have gotten great reviews and it is only a couple bucks more than the one you bought. I personally own 3 Seagate hard drive and none of them have gone bad on me yet, and they come with a 5 year warranty.

    Re: HELP!.... again

I was looking at the Seagate hard drive as a possible replacement. I went back and read some of the negative reviews that the hard i originally bought got and it does seem like a lot of people ran into the same problem with the drive. maybe i should've paid closer attention the first time around.
