Issue powering desktop PC off of an inverter...

I am trying to run a desktop PC off of 12 VDC.  I initially tried using a standard off the shelf inverter.  The power supply in the PC was <500 watts and the inverter is 750 watts, so lack of power is not the issue.

When I plug the PC in to the inverter the inverter continually cycles power every few seconds, and doesn't give me the AC output.  This is before I even try powering the desktop on!

I also have tried a 1000W "true sine-wave" inverter, and see the same behavior.

Does anyone know why this would occur, or alternative solutions?  I have heard of 12VDC input PC power supplies, but selection seems very sparse and I haven't found any with high enough wattage or the correct output connectors.
