ok so i snatched this phone from att cause it had all the features i wanted but i have a problem

when i try to transfer files from my phone to computer or vice versa i simply can't do it, all i've found from the user manual or sony's very unhelpful website says under my computer in xp it should show as removable storage but when i try go into "my computer" it shows it as drive e under the removable storage options but when i double click on it to open files on my phone it says please insert a disk into drive e...now this is all connected through the usb cable that was supplied by sony with my new phone and this is as far as info goes that i have been able to find so far so i come to my most reliable source...you guys

now that i've rambled on the only thing i've done "wrong" is when the first time i connected it i let xp d/l all the drivers that came up and in the user manual i now see that it says to take no action the first time its plugged up, how would i go about undoing that mistake if that is the problem, i'm planning on getting a 8gig sd card to store songs and other files such as pictures but i'd like to have this worked out before i go to far into this

lol...same issue with u. currently use Nokia 5300. and once i connected it to my computer and it also said "please insert a disk into drive g"
with advice from eggxpert, i turned off my phone and checked my sd card. it turned to be loose.

Hah...and then connected again and it worked well to drag songs and pics from my computer into my phone.

guess i'll be off to the geek store in the morning and actually getting a card for it,ugh i hope it works cause i reall don't want to have to go to the att store to ask them anything cause if you're not buying or upgrading an iphone they treat you like a dead snake

Maybe you can uninstall via Device Manager?  USB Mass Storage Device?

Do you even get the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the taskbar?  What happens if you right click the new drive in my computer and choose explore?

Not sure any of this will do anything, but sort of curious...

aight i unistalled the drviers through device manager, why i didn't think of that this morning beats me but thanks for the reminder but no change there still saying insert drive

yah i get the remove hardware icon and when i click on explore it still says insert drive, now i know that not having a sd card already in the phone isn't helping my situation any but am i wrong in thinking i should still be able to transfer files to and from my limited phone memory? thanks again for your reply and any other info thats needed lemme know

 Hmmm, wish I knew more here...mine had a 64MB card out of the box, so I'm not sure how that works for yours.

edit - Only other thing I can think of is if your Connectivity menu is set right?

not sure what that means but thanks for the suggestions, only thing i can do with connectivity is choose phone mode or file transfer
