    NewEgg Cookie - not remembering "Lowest Price"

    I can no longer save my "sort preference" when displaying a search result. It's like something happened to NewEgg's global site cookie? For example, I used to be able to "search within" for "Lowest Price" and it would stay that way from session to session. Now it always defaults to "Best Match".

    Is anyone else seeing this behavior since last week?

    It occurs at my job as well on a different network, and on co-workers' machines too.

    I'd love to get it stick for "Lowest price" again like it used to in the past.

    =====

    I got this response from a question to NewEgg about it but nothing here helped:

     Things to try:

    - Enable Cookies.
    - Enable JavaScript.
    - In IE, set security profile to medium.
    - In IE, Enable "Override automatic cookie handling" to allow cookies. (Tools > Internet Options > Privacy tab > Advanced).
    - Clear existing cookies and cache (temporary internet files), you may go to (system partition):\Documents and Settings\ (your system account name)\Cookies\ and delete all the files manually;
    - In Firefox, the setting "network.http.sendRefererHeader" is set to 1. (type "about:config" in address bar)
    - Make sure the date/time on your computer is not way off for your time zone.
    - Check router settings if there is a router, make sure the firmware for the router is the newest.

    - Make sure you did not block our site and our image cache server called AKAMAI.

    If you have tried all these above and the problem persists, please try the following solution for your issue: adding Newegg host record into your computer:

    Please go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc, and then open up the hosts file with notepad.  Inside that file, please add one more row “216.52.208.185 www.newegg.com" and another row "216.52.208.188   secure.newegg.com".

    Your patience and understanding regarding this issue is greatly appreciated. Any further concern, please feel free to let us know.

    Re: NewEgg Cookie - not remembering "Lowest Price"

    This has happened to me, as well, on multiple browsers (I test multiple browsers when I have a problem such as this to ensure it's not browser-specificity).

    I'm not sure how to fix it, but I'm sure that they'll work on it, if none of that worked.

    It makes sense, though, for them, to match by 'best match', because if you don't think before adding it to your cart, you might not purchase the best-value product.  I'm not going to say they're doing this on purpose (maliciously), but it kinda makes sense in that it's only a problem from our end - hopefully one they work to fix.

    Anyone else?

    Re: NewEgg Cookie - not remembering "Lowest Price"

    No improvement - it worked for years and now, it will not save "lowest price" - it always defaults to "Best Match" - It would be really nice if NewEgg could restore this functionality to a loyal customers (at least this loyal customer, who has spent thousands of dollars over the years)

    Anyone else see this behavior?  If this was intentional on behalf of NewEgg, it appears that more than one person would like to have that functionality restored, please.  Pretty please? Big Smile

    I've been noticing it, too.  It would be nice to have it fixed.  It is (was) a nice feature.  Crying

    Re: NewEgg Cookie - not remembering "Lowest Price"

    I have this problem as well. Tried clearing cookies and files but no luck. Also, I have a similar problem with my wish lists. There was a time 4 months ago when I did a quote for 15 systems (all identical) so the wish list for them had 15 of each item. Now.... ALL of my wish lists keep going to 15!!!!!! I fix them. They eventually show back up at 15! It is driving me nuts! I think the two problems are related, if you ask me. See if anyone else is having that problem...

    Re: NewEgg Cookie - not remembering "Lowest Price"

    This is still an issue, webmasters and those who make decisions at NewEgg.  Please restore the customer's ability to choose sort options.  You are doing a disservice to your loyal customers by making them click "lowest price" each and every time one searches for an item.  Thank you for listening.

    Re: NewEgg Cookie - not remembering "Lowest Price"

    * bump *

    Hi Newegg execs and webmaster... this is still not the way it was.  Please restore the sort functionality to your customers.  It's annoying to have to click "lowest price" every time we have to searh for something using that parameter.

     Pretty please?

    Hi Samo,

    I've actually noticed this glitch myself, it is definitely an annoyance and it didn't always behave that way.  I've sent an email over to our web team to inquire further and see if they can work out a fix -- I'll let you guys know as soon as I hear back!

    Regards,

    I have noticed it too.  It doesn't seem like it would be much of a nuisance but it really gets on my nerves.

    Re: NewEgg Cookie - not remembering "Lowest Price"

    Yeah guys, as mentioned before, its unlikely this is a glitch.  There are two reasons this would be intentional.  The first was mentioned above: if you're lazy you might not always get the best deal/lowest price by re-organizing the list.  And the second is, defaulting to Best Match every time is probably best for people who use the search engine entry on top, as opposed to clicking on the various categories on the left side bar.

    I think it would be nice if it remembered your choice too; personally I ALWAYS go with "Best Rating" instead of Lowest Price, but those of you that feel like this is some huge inconvenience that needs to be fixed should chill out.  If it is an intentional change, try to see it from their point of view... They are a business, so wanting to control which products display first isn't out of line, especially when ONE click changes it to your preference!   Also, you'd have to be extremely stupid/lazy/ADHD not to reorder the results to suit your needs, so it's not like they're trying to scam you.  At worst it's the same deal as when you go to a fast food place and they ask you "Would you like to try our Chicken Sandwhich today?" everytime before you order.

    Re: NewEgg Cookie - not remembering "Lowest Price"

    People that check Newegg several times a day and always sort by lowest price find this an annoying inconvenience.  It has nothing to do with being stupid, lazy or ADHD.  If this is intentional, whatever Newegg thinks it is gaining is offset by the inconvenience to those that notice such things.  After all, what is the biggest single reason most of us shop with Newegg?  It is because they price the products they sell very competitively.  Then add their excellent customer service and that is the secret to their success, IMO.  Making visitors see the best match first is not something that follows this formula of success they have honed over the years.

    Re: NewEgg Cookie - not remembering "Lowest Price"

    No no, not saying you people are lazy or stupid, I'm saying that newegg is aware most people will notice and reorganize their results, they know most people ARENT stupid or ADHD enough not to change it. so they are not intentionally trying to scam you into buying the products they want you to.  I do check newegg several times a day.  But like I said, not everyone prefers Lowest Price, so saving your preference would be nice, but defaulting to lowest price instead of best match isn't critical.  Also, some people who search for specific products might actually prefer best match, since they find the exact thing they are looking for faster that way.  It may be the case that more people use the specific search bar instead of the sidebar, I don't know.  But assuming that everyone prefers your system and that Newegg is in the wrong for changing it is a bit much.  The people from newegg are active on this forum, and several people have emailed them so they've probably already considered your suggestions... which brings me to another point, shouldnt this thread be in the suggestions area instead of shopping experience??

    Any updates?  I personally hate it. I like to search primarily by price, and it is the one thing that changed that I didn't like.  Everything else in the past several months I'm good with but that... Sucks.   I hope this can be resolved, such as giving the customer a 'preference" switch in their site dashboard or something.

    Sporkle:
    but defaulting to lowest price instead of best match isn't critical.

    It's not about the default sorting - it's about saving the preferences.  That's why this thread started.  I've noticed myself looking further and further away from newegg in these past few months for many reasons - one being inconveniences like this, and another being the incremental killing-off of the lower priced products (for instance, there used to be over 20 cases in the <$20 range, and now there are ~6).

    It kinda hurts to have to look elsewhere, but if newegg's gonna keep doing this, I don't know that I've much of a choice.

    Noticed this too with FF3 and IE7.  Very annoying.
