Not sure what is going on

I just bought a new computer and everthing seemed fine.  I went to start playing COD4, and i could not get out of the shooting range in the beginning without the game locking up. I am running XP and pulled out 1 of my corsair dominator 2 gig sticks and tried again. Still crashed, swapped sticks, still crashed.  Left it alone and at point tried playing and i WAS able to play for about 2 hours, then it crashed.  Sometimes its a BSOD sometimes  a crash to desktop.  CSS plays absolutley fine at high settings.  TF2 at High settings plays okay for a little then it locks up. Portal plays for a few minutes then locks up, Medeivel 2: total war  on high settings plays just fine.  I reaized tghat my Ram was set at 800mhz and default voltage, and i set it to 1066mhz at 2.1V as stated on the ram.  completely not stable, goes to BSOD before windows can load.  However i ran a memtest at 800mhz and it passed.

I am wondering if it is my vid card, mobo, or what it still may even be the ram.....i am completely clueless at this point.  wondering if i should try setting my FSB to 400 as i noticed in another thread on the forums with someone haveing a similar issue with the same ram.

Any thoughts, or help would be greatly appreciated,

PS only have 10 days left to RMA the mobo if that IS the problem

Re: Not sure what is going on

Is this in both single and multiplayer for COD4 that the problems are? or just one or the other.

Have you ran a  Memtest86/ freeware                                Read-me on it?

yeah, i ran the Memtest on it at 800mhz and it passed with no errors, thinking of trying memtest86+ too,  And I have not yet tried playing in multplayer yet, however TF2 is Multiplayer,

happens in multiplayer in COD4 too, just tried it, it locked up when choosing a class, was able to play for about 3-4 min, then locked up

Re: Not sure what is going on

Have you downloaded and installed the latest patches for COD4, do other games lock up?

Re: Not sure what is going on

Go into Event Finder, and see if there's any reported errors in the System or Apps folder. EF isnt the best tool, but it can ID the prob area.

Especially look for NV errors. GMSc is right on, there were some major issue without the patch on certain set ups,, can't recall which ones were prominent.

You shouldn't be having any power issues, with that 1K Corsair! Thats for sure! LOL.

    Penewah!

Re: Not sure what is going on

GmsCool, yeah it locks up in TF2 and Portal.....Medievel 2 total war and CSS both work fine.  This is with all games at high-highest settings.  However i think AA is off for most of em, or at least down low.

I have patched the game up to 1.5, still need to patch it to 1.6

I also had Netflix streming video viewer screw up on me 1 time

When portal crashed to desktop, i went in to play Medeivel 2, however the screen was screwed up as soon as i went into the main menu, the background was all white, but the text worked....could this be video card?  Oh and the game in general was slow and choppy as well.  But this was only after Portal had crashed.  Think i had something similar happen when COD4 crashed one time and i did the same thing with Med 2

Re: Not sure what is going on

First I would download and run OCCT test as it will check system stability and memory. If it passes then you know basic system is stable and then I would be looking a gfx card or patches.

Re: Not sure what is going on

yeah, was able to finish yesterday....gonna try TF2 tonight cuz it was also crashing...sooo apparently it was a driver issue

however i still have an issue of my ram not being stable when clocked to its supposed seetings of 1066 2.1v   would this be a mem issue or mainboard issue? or a voltage issue?
