    BenQ burner making strange noise

Does anyone else own a BenQ DW1655 DVD burner?  Mine is making this strange little winding...*click* noise when I boot up the computer (no disk in drive).  Doesn't seem to affect performance, but a little disconcerting.  Probably around a year old or so, current firmware.

I had a drive in the past that was make by lite on and it would make a extremely large winding up noice like a race car. So be advise its prob fine just has a little defect in it.

it is normal for the DVD burner to make some noise and when you use your rig in the mid night, you can even hear the noise of your hd. if it is tolerable and works well, you can stick to it for a while. basically, the older, they will make more noises.

Thanks for the input.  I've noticed that I'm having troubles with DL discs on that burner.  I end up getting some error and it won't burn.  And though I've heard not so great things about the Verbatim DL's, they work fine on a my new Pioneer.  Not sure if it's related, but a little strange.

Re: BenQ burner making strange noise

The optical drives are consumable items. Because of the quality of the disk and the aging

mechanical part, we can always hear noises when the optical drive is working.

Besides, manufacturers usually raise the transmitting speed by increasing the rotating

speed, so it is common for a one-year optical drive to have noises. You can use assorted

software to limit the rotating speed; however, the transmitting speed will also slow down by

    doing this.
