im good with computers but my weak point is programing.  I really want to learn but I'm not sure which program to learn. Some one suggested that I learn python. any suggestions.  c++, python, what would be a good idea

also could you suggest any good C++ programming books to get, or any programming book 

If your just learning I suggest C++, then python, book just Google guide there's hundreds of good free sources.

I think this really depends on what use your program will be for.

I work in web development, so I had to learn most of the scripting languages when i studied programming. I started with HTML and worked myself up to CSS and javascript. Im starting my degree in college next year in computer science and maths, which from what i have learnt so far is mainly all based around actual server scripting such as SQL and soforth. But i know 100% that once you learn the very basics of HTML or even Visual Basics, that all other languages will just fall into place, once you have that initial conception of how the languages work and how to computer reads them.

But as said, select a language that is relevent to exactly what you wish to program for. Wether that be databases using mySQL and PHP or building websites using XHTML and CSS.

I always, personally, recommend every new programmer check out Python and take a little time to learn that. It's pretty straightforward and it's a good step towards bigger and better languages.

Totally agree. 'C' based languages are the way to truly learn how to program..  this allows you to get into PHP if web programming..  or onto C++/C# for software development/small applications.

If you are strictly just web..  then a good foundation of XHTML/XML, with modifiers of CSS and JavaScript ( very basic scripting to advanced).. then to dynamic web programming PHP, Perl, ColdFusion, ASP.Net
