Yeah but heres what I mean, intel uses the 775 socket for ddr3 on some motherboards, and ddr2 on some motherboards, but they use the same socket. Amd because there memory controler is on the cpu chip can only use ddr2 with a am2 socket, unless amd designs a am2 socket chip that supports ddr3. Then amd can do that. But intel you can use a old old old pentium chip on a ddr3 motherboard if they have the same socket, while with amd that cant happen.
For intel the cpu doesnt matter just the motherboard does. Let me know if that makes sense or if I myself might be wrong. I always up to finding out correct information incase im incorrect! I like bieng a know it all :p
