Software to rip and compress blu ray and hd dvd's

I need some software that will allow me to rip and compress my blu ray and hd dvd's to my hard drive, I have a blueray/hd dvd combo drive.

I want to rip them, but also need to compress so the files aren't 25+ gb's. does anyone know of some software that will allow me to do this?

Its not Illegal if you own the DVD that’s a fact. You as a owner are legally allowed to back up any DVD as long as you can provide evidence that you own it like showing the DVD/HD/Blu-ray case with the original in it.

Since when? From my understanding its illegal according to the DMCA to circumvent any and all DRM or copy protection, regardless of whether or not there is any copyright infringement. Both DVD and BD have copy protection. Cheers!

Nope sorry that is not how it works it when you distribute pirated copies of the film not back them up. there is a difference in two, do you know the difference well here it is.

    1. a person distributing a pirated copy of a movie for personal financial gain is infringing on the DMCA ACT if 1998.

    2. A person who back up a copy of their own movie is allowed to do so sense he/she owns the original and can not sell or distribute the copy for personal gain or finances.

I have been in this legal battle if in the real world how about you. The Judge threw out the case because I was using the copies for personal use and to let my friends watch them as well.

When you make a backup copy its called a what a ARCHIVE

    Per the DMCA ACT 1998

Sec. 1204. Criminal offenses and penalties.

`(a) IN GENERAL- Any person who violates section 1201 or 1202 willfully and for purposes of commercial advantage or private financial gain--
`(1) shall be fined not more than $500,000 or imprisoned for not more than 5 years, or both, for the first offense; and
`(2) shall be fined not more than $1,000,000 or imprisoned for not more than 10 years, or both, for any subsequent offense.
`(b) LIMITATION FOR NONPROFIT LIBRARY, ARCHIVES, OR EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION- Subsection (a) shall not apply to a nonprofit library, archives, or educational institution.
`(c) STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS- No criminal proceeding shall be brought under this section unless such proceeding is commenced within 5 years after the cause of action arose

That sounds like referring to an archive as an organization, not a medium.

Final joint version of H.R. 2281,

DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act), Oct. 20, 1998

Signed into law Oct. 28, 1998 as Public Law 105-304

AnyDVD HD (real time decrypt in the background) --> ImgBurn (output to ISO file) or CloneDVD 2 --> DVD Shrink (input ISO, then output to compressed file)

I haven't actually tried compressing BR ISO using DVD Shrink but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Have you thought about just buy a 1TB drive(s) and don't worry about compressing them ?

I still don't understand your point of compressing BD or HD-DVD discs.  The reason the files are so huge is b/c they're intended to be played back and to satisfy us with a very high quality A/V using todays newer TV and PC/monitor sets.

Since you will lose all the HD qualities with compression, why not just use a DVD of same title?  Rent one from BlockB or NetFx and there you have it.

The main reason most people rip BD is b/c they are freedom-loving ppl!  They hate DRM! (Note that Muslix's way does not compress BD or HD-DVD's).

    Here's one to qoute:

    Amazing.

Muslix64 should be served and protected by the freedom-loving HDCP-hating people of the world!

Re: Software to rip and compress blu ray and hd dv

I've seen movies compressed with x264 I guess its called, that are 1080P, and it seems to keep the file size in the 8-10GB range for a 2Hour or so movie.

Watching these movies, there really seems to be no visiable of quality at all, although im pretty sure this method is still lossy, and not lossless.
