I use Comcast cable for my internet access and it seems to be getting as slow as a dial-up connection.

So I want to try a new cable modem/wireless router.

I have 2 wired computers and a wireless laptop.

I presently have a Linksys Wireless-G Cable Gateway WCG 200.

Is there another all-in-one that will give faster speeds both wired and wireless?

 

Do you notice a significant difference in speed between 6PM and 2AM? If yes, then blame comcast and all the people online at the same time as you, heh.

I know the amount of people will affect speed, but sometimes web pages take 30-40 seconds to load, when it should be 2-3 seconds.

Someone has to have an idea.??

Some cable companies will lower the speed at certain times when PPL are in bed for maintenance reasons. Call your cable CO and have them check for Line Noise. Also if there are others on your network downloading bit torrent files that will slow it down.

Do you think this is a better unit than the Linksys I have?

Hard to say I know some people that have used the Motorola and like it.

Thats some really good speeds from Comcast. So well as for the other part of 20 - 40 seconds to load a page at that point is it every website or high traffic sites like yahoo, CNN, bloom burg, ZDnet, Microsoft, Gigabyte ect....

At dslreports it was a little different

dslreports is the server that you are testing on near you at all. Distance does make a difference when doing it.

The first test, the sever was in Olympia WA. where I live.

So I did a test from a sever in Cal.

That is closer to most speed tests I've done.

 

 

At that point I would call Comcast to have them check your line for noise. As for the San Jose CA server that is close to what it should be at 700 miles away.

I'm a comcast customer and I just ran a speedtest on speedtest.net. Our upload speeds are about the same, but my download speed is about 3x's faster.
