Are they really required?

 I have a computer that's just too slow to meet the minimum system requirements for Bioshock, by about .1 GHz (CPU speed- i have a 2.4 P4, it says minimum required is 2.5 GHz)

Does the program really check your hardware? I can deal with low framerates, but from recommendations from my friends, i really really want to play Bioshock.

LOL, chances are, the game will not stop you from playing it because you missed the requirement by 100mhz.

I can't imagine what you're in for. I hope you have a half way decent video card, because if you're stuck with onboard, I can't imagine the game being playable.

You may get the game to "start up" but if your rig dosen't meet the minium requirements, chances are you will find it frustrating to play.

Usually the minimum requirements posted on the box represent the hardware needed simply to start the game up....the recommended requirements are needed to play the game at a decent enough framerate to enjoy it in my opinion.

So being only 0.1 ghz under the requirements, you should be able to start the game but it will most likely be running so slow it would be more frustrating than fun to play in any capacity.

I would just look for another game or try upgrading your system to something better.
