MP3 that doesn't need software to drag & drop?

MP3 that doesn't need software to drag & drop?

I'm looking to buy an MP3 player for a 15 year old family member.  He currently owns a dated Sony mp3 player that utilizes a difficult to use software interface for transfering the MP3 files from the computer to the player.

If he takes the old Sony MP3 player to a friends house, the MP3 player will not transfer any files because the computer doesn't have the Sony software installed.

He would like to get an MP3 player that is simple USB detection, where it opens up a windows folder and he can simply drag and drop mp3's from the computer to the player, and from the player back to the computer, with no software needed.  Is this possible?

I have a budget of around $75-125 for this device.

He wants an MP3 player that has some flashy bells and whistes such as an lcd screen on the front.  I don't think it is necessarily important for the MP3 player to also play videos, however I don't stay up-to-date on all of these things, maybe video capability now comes standard.

Please point me in a good direction to a few MP3 players that fit these criteria.  Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply, however it is overbudget and there are no user ratings.  I typically do not purchase something unless there are a dozen or more user ratings.

I was hoping to stick towards the $75-100 range, but had a max of $125.  No more than $125.  Any other players fit these criteria?  Espcially the idea of drag and drop mp3 transfer without the need of software???

Check out hte SanDisk sansa.  Peopel love this one, and get it from amazon.  The 8 gig version on amazon is cheaper than the 6 gig version on newegg.  Here is the link...

Amazon is very reputable, their free shipping usually takes about a week, but its worth the wait.

Re: MP3 that doesn't need software to drag & drop?

I've been looking into the Samsung K3.  It seems to have good reviews except for the fact that it is all about form over function.  I've heard that because it doesn't have raised buttons, it is very hard to "feel" where the buttons are.  You have to take the player out of your pocket and physically look at it to determine where to push on the front panel.

On the other hand, the Sansa player doesn't use the drag & drop file transfer.  At least this is what I've heard.  If anyone can comment or correct this info, please post.

    Thanks.

I have the Sansa linked above.  It does come with their "helpful" software for transfers, but you don't have to use it.  I don't have it installed.  Works just like a flash drive, and you can save w/e you want to its memory.

The only real bummer to me about the player is that it doesn't support SDHC (last I checked, anyway).  So, you can add up to 2 GB in the micro slot.

It's true that you have to look at the MP3 player when pressing buttons, since the face of the player is completely flat. I bought that particular Samsung MP3 player few months ago, it's been wonderful. It doesn't need any extra software to load the MP3s onto it, it has 20+ hours of battery life, and has excellent sound quality & headphones, which put all of my other headphones in the house to shame.

Edit: Here's a vid for it.

Re: MP3 that doesn't need software to drag & drop?

I would second Creative ZEN V Plus 70PF2072001Y1 as intelguy said. This is a quite nice one concerning ur criteria with 4GB Flash Memory and FM Tuner, and simple drag and drop function. Here is a review u may wanna have a look. http://reviews.pricegrabber.com/portable-media-players/m/27232866/st=product_tab/

Well, i'd also go with this one, Microsoft Zune, pretty nice, but it's out of stock. :( Anyway, hope it would help. XD

Re: MP3 that doesn't need software to drag & drop?

I have a cowon D2 and a cowon X5L. Both great media players.

    Some advantages of D2:
    -flash style drivespace
-touch screen with multitouch (think iTouch)
-~50 hours of battery life for audio
    -2.5 inch screen
-SD/HC card expansion supports 16GB and (hopefully) 32GB ones when they come out
-74mw best in class audio output
    -plays videos
    -TV out
    -FM radio
    -voice recorder
-ID3 Tag support (sorting like iPod)
    -Podcast
    -Lyrics
    -Flash (games & tools)
    -line in recording

I got mine for ~$150 on newegg. Getting a 16GB SDHC class 6 for $60 on newegg.
