I found what appeared to be the perfect DVD burner for my budget (Samsung SH-S203N http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16827151154), so I put it in my wishlist.
Approx. 16 hours after adding it to my wishlist, I tried to move it from the wishlist to the cart, only to discover that it is out of stock with an ETA of 5/20/08.
Instead of the Samsung, I ended up purchasing my second choice, an ASUS DRW-2014L1T (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135156)
I originally chose the Samsung because both the specifications and the reviews were slightly better than the Asus.
Does anyone have one or both of these drives? How do you like them? I will be upgrading my sisters burner soon & want to know if it is best to get another Asus, or wait for the Samsung. (Or give her the Asus and keep the Samsung for myself
)
Other than the time needed to burn the label and more expensive media, are there drawbacks for using lightscribe? Does using it reduce the life of the drive?
By the way... I placed the order for the drive and a couple of spindles of disks during my lunch at work (about 2pm eastern). When I checked status at about 10:30 pm eastern, the order had already shipped. Newegg does it again!
Thanks to all for any feedback
