vista 64 bit installed... still waiting on replacement XFX 790i and replacement GSkill DDR3 1600mhz

after a lot of research there seems to be a problem with the new bios from EVGA for the E173  750i, the only way i have been able to get my Q9550 to work in my EVGA 750i E173 is to install my E8500, set bios settings to optimal defaults, shut down system, replace with Q9550.. if i attempt to change any voltages or FSB speeds it locks up..  so i highly suggest to anyone thinking of purchasing a budget board do not get the EVGA 750i E173 and if you have one already do not flash the bios to the latest version. After the bios flash i could no longer overclock my E8500 passed 3.5ghz it just wouldnt do it.

on the old bios i had it at 4ghz for a short time just seeing if i could do it... so quite possibly all my problems are in this motherboard...

so hopefully i get a good kit this time from GSkill and a good motherboard from XFX and my framerates will sky rocket to where they should be with a 3dmark06 of over 20,000 rather than 14,000

Solid - looks like you had quite the journey. I am a bit nervous about the XFX 790i Ultra motherboard. Have you had any issues since install? I have read quite a few posts on different forums bout people having trouble with nForce motherboards....I really hope its ok because I have to upgrade my motherboard and I have 2x 8800 GTX's....

overclocked to 3.6ghz like a dream im still new at it.. but i didnt have to mess with vcore voltage i just bumped it up a notch just to be safe and temps are all around 40 deg C  at idle... some say thats a lil high.. but i cant complain considering stock speeds are 2.8ghz

im running 4 sticks of Gskill Ripjaws  DDR3  1600mhz...   no issues at all.. i input the timings and the frequency with a 1T comand rate and shes still holding those timings at  3.6ghz .. so far so good ..

i just got done messing around with crysis... and im getting 20-30 FPS at  16xQ AA and  40-50 FPS  8x   AA    on Very high..   1920x1200

i dont think my motherboard was bad if you happend to sift through this post i just sent it back just incase.. so i wouldnt be set back another 2 weeks..  it was a bad stick of Gskill ...    i put everything together ... set  FSB and Mem to unlinked..  set the ram to expert entered the timings 8-8-8-24  1T  @1.65v    set the FSB to 1700mhz   bumped up the Vcore one or two notches ... and then set the rest Nbridge, Sbridge, etc all in the first green setting and saved and it booted first time.. no issues..  in fact i was very impressed with windows 7 i had been using a 750i , windows 7 recognized my raid array and booted from it no issues at all..  i reinstalled the motherboard and graphics card drivers just to be safe and defragged the hard drive. rebooted and ran those test...  im pretty happy to say the least considering the bad luck i was having..

now looking back i am dead set that the 750i was the culprit of all of my problems...  i am getting about 30- 50 more FPS in world of warcraft compared to what i was getting yesterday..  i did a 5 man heroic just to test it out and it blazed it up at well over 100 FPS most of the run.. standing still it was rollin at 170-190 FPS.. during fights was around 80 fps  now that was just a five man the real test will be in a 25 man raid...

I have to say, I've been really impressed with Win 7, and this is coming from an XP fanboy. It's recognized everything I've thrown at it without a hitch, and I'm still running the RTM. I'm gonna wait till christmas deals to buy it, but it's really encouraging that it saw your RAID array, since I've got an array on a computer that I've been dying to put 7 on, but wasn't quite sure about how it would behave.

    I pwn n00bs.
