    Re: Firefox 3 - Tips / Tricks / Tweaks

One of the things that I miss in Firefox v3 is that duplicate bookmarks will not be saved. Every time you save a bookmark in a different folder, it will be removed from any other folder that it may already be in.

Do you, or anyone, know about an "about:config" command, or some setting that will let me save duplicate bookmarks as in previous versions?  I know dragging the bookmark to another folder will work, but I would like for Firefox 3 to work without this added work.

Do you, or anyone, know about a tweak to disable the Firefox 3 Error Console?

    Re: Firefox 3 - Tips / Tricks / Tweaks

When I upgraded to Firefox 3, I found I could no longer download anything. After a long search I found that I had set Internet Explorer Security settings to High. To let Firefox download files again I did this:

Under Internet Explorer select Tools/Internet Options/Security/Internet  choose Custom Level and find under Miscellaneous "Lanching Applications and Unsafe Files" change to "Prompt (Recommended)" This setting is used by both Internet Explorer and Firefox.

I have Windows XP Pro. and IE7, sp3. I do not know if any other version of Windows has this same problem. I have a couple of friends that had this same problem and this also fixed it for them.

Sorry, I got nothing really for any of that.  Bump?  =]

In these, were they all upgrades instead of fresh installs?  Just wondering, I had problems upgrading from 1.x to 2.x, ended up having to reinstall anyway.  Didn't even attempt an upgrade for 3.x and don't recall having that problem.  FEBE will make the install a bit less painful.  Although, it sounds like settings for one or the other changed, either IE via updates or the new FF version.  Again....nothin'.  lol

    IamHydrogen:

I Installed IE from a fresh start, so I could uninstall it if I wanted to. Firefox 3 was an upgrade from v2. I have all updates for IE and Firefox.

If I have IE under Security..Internet set to high and "Launching Applications and Unsafe Files" is left check to "Disable", I cannot dl files in Firefox 3.

I do not use IE except to dl Microsoft updates, so I set this to high. If I set "Launching Applications and Unsafe Files" to "prompt(recommended), dls will work. It seems that Firefox 3 is using settings from IE for some reason, or at least the same settings that IE is using.

If your are using Firefox 3, try setting the IE Security...Internet to high and see if you have the same problem.

I have everything working OK now, but wonder why this is so. Maybe I have something that is not working right.

    Thanks for your input!

I think what you've described is normal.

Was just thinking about this one some more and.....something isn't right.  It should be allowing multiple copies of bookmarks, there are add-ons specifically to remove duplicates!  Any bookmark related add-ons installed / which ones?  Don't know how you do it, but if I drag the favicon over to a bookmark folder it will save dups.

^^ finally found something relevant.  Seems to back up the favicon way, or also to copy the first bookmark and paste it where you want the dup.

    Thanks IamHydrogen:

The url, http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=812555  you gave was a real help.

I never thought about using copy and paste. This seems to work for me. Not as easy as it was under Firefox V2, but at least there is a way to do it. (Ctrl + Drag would only work sometimes for me).

    Re: Firefox 3 - Tips / Tricks / Tweaks

Glad it helped.  lol, I had the tab with that search on mozillazine still open, and looked just a little more.  I don't know how much/often you need to do it, but I saw from a couple of threads there (here's one) that someone there made an add-on to get around the 3.x way of BMing:

    Old Add Bookmark Behavior 1.9

    Re: Firefox 3 - Tips / Tricks / Tweaks

Not sure if this will help many but it helped speed Firefox 3 for me. There is no official Faster Fox for Firefox 3, but some one modified it to work with Firefox 3. Download this, click and drag to add-ons and restart Firefox.

    Hope it helps you all.

Sure, here's the add-on search.  I use Mouse Gestures Redox because it is similar to Opera's.  Couple of different ones depending on what you like, though.

    Re: Firefox 3 - Tips / Tricks / Tweaks

I'm sure it's easy, but I don't see it.... How do you make FF refresh a page everytime  it opens?

    I have a couple of tabs that I leave open...when I restart, I don't think it updates/refreshes the pages.

    browser.cache.check_doc_frequency

That should help ("0" perhaps?), or if you happen to use Tab Mix Plus - there's a tick-box for this (fluff, lol).
