Re: If you haven't heard yet...[yay]

2nd the request for dual-core GPU timeline. (I'll be perfectly happy if the margin of error on that prediction is within 9 months Wink )

Also, from a much more technical standpoint, and I really hope this is addressed because I'd like to know what motherboards are gimmicky and which are really necessary to use your card at full speed:

How much of a standard PCIe x16 lane is saturated by nVidia's cards, and is there any way of calculating/finding this out?

I ask because I've seen tests showing the even the 8800GTX does not fully saturate a PCIe x8 lane, (GTX SLI performs about the same on the 680i and 650i chipsets) though CAGG has assured me his Ultras underperformed when used on 8x lanes. What's the cutoff? How much data do your cards actually pump through the PCIe bus? And lastly, if the Ultra is the only card right now that saturates an x8 lane, what in Satan's glorious name could possibly require a PCIe 2.0 slot (32 lanes) to function at full capacity?!?! (if the answer to this last question is "the 9800GTX," then you're looking at an upgrade customer Guns)

Re: If you haven't heard yet...[yay]

I'd like to add to MrMonroe's question a little bit more...

Since Dual-Core GPUs have double the amount of information they can load and process, does it saturate the bandwidth anymore then Single-Core GPUs, and it actually fully saturate (At full load) a PCI-Express 16x (1.1v) or even a PCI-Express 8x (1.0v)? And if so, does getting PCI-Express 2.0 give you better performance or will a PCI-Express 16x (1.1v) work?

    Respectfully,

    PROACEX1

Is there going to be in the near future that upgrading a video card will be just like adding a new cpu and or ram to your motherboard?  It seems that the more we demand out of these cards the more real-estate they will need. So are swapable video processors and video ram even a thought?

WHEN WILL THE 9800GT OC2 VIDEO CARD BE RELEASED ? AND WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 8800GT OC2 VIDEO CARD AND THE 9800GT OC2 VIDEO CARD ?

Re: If you haven't heard yet...[yay]

How much longer will we have to wait before Ntune fully integrates with the i680 chipset. We can see motherboard parameters how ever any attempted to change anything creates a lockup hard lockup. Yes I'm using the latest chipset software

Why have the video drivers  for the 8800GTX taken a back seat, since the release of the 8800GT512 (G92) and 9600. We were seeing regular driver updates. And that has since stopped. It's been three months since beta 169.28 was released. Now I'm seeing 174.?? in other countrys

Re: If you haven't heard yet...[yay]

I don't know how much of this is true or speculation from what I have learned so bare with me... and feel free to correct/reword anything on these subjects, but these are the biggest things i've been wondering about for a while...

2 part Q: It has come to my attention that Nvidia has made most of the card "manufacturers" little more than sticker stampers, what's your response to the community on this subject, and are there any regrets in association with this eventually hindering your ability to buy amd/ati if such an option were open?

Q: There has been some... uhh.. 'turbulence' with your drivers as of late. From what I understand you have a way to fully test any given chip before it's actually manufactured. Is the "turbulence" due to 'pressure' to put products on the shelf BEFORE they are fully developed?

Q: How do you feel about Linux and gaming? What is the companies official stance on open source, and are there any roadmaps or plans with/without game developers to bring more gaming to the Linux community?

Q:How does the more mainstream adoption of Ubuntu affect your plans? (might be redundant depending on answer to previous question)

Q: Are you hieing? I need a job.

I don't really think this needs to be stated but i'll go ahead and do it anyway. As of right now, I'm slated to purchase a Gigabyte hd 3870. The price is down to 179 with nwn2, a zaleman cooler, and other needed accessories. Put all that into the calculation that makes it basically a mainstream priced card, especially if you're going to buy the game anyway. not to mention i feel confident that like the x1xxx series, the higher end of the hd 3870 will hold it's value for a while unless this interview reveals something slated for the next few weeks to obliterate all previous cards.... Well that and I'm a tightwad/poor at the moment... thank god for overpaying on my taxes or I wouldn't be building at all! :-p

Re: If you haven't heard yet...[yay]

    one more thing...

Q: With the acquisition of  Ageia, will you be integrating their technology? Or will you continue with the dedicated line? of you do integrate it will you lisence it out and 'show ATI some love'. Simply for the sake of possibly excluding yourself in the market via either price or lack of developer support? Or just shut it down as you think it's not necessary with engines such as Havoc?

(note: voiltaire's comment above reminded me, thanks)

Is it true that nVidia cards select Frames to skip in games to enhance performance/speed?

If it is true, why? Some people love flowing beauty and have the eyes to pick up even a single frame change.

Re: If you haven't heard yet...[yay]

Not that i am complaining, but speaking as one who spent a king's ransom to purchase an 8 series SLI rig for my gamer, how is it that the introductary prices for the 9 series is so cheap in comparison, and why could not have the 8 series been done the same way. Or is it because of R&D costs, which were paid by 8 series sales, and carried over to the 9 series?

    Re: If you haven't heard yet...[yay] FX-1500

Regarding the FX-1500  (profesional series used for ProEngineer 3D CAD on Intel 32 & 64 bit system)

    -  I do NOT like your new control panel style...seems to have less control and information.
More importantly, I seem to be having compatibility problems with Zone Labs Security Suite...I think that it shows up as spy-ware.
I have tryed to tell Zone Labs to prompt me for action, and to allow these files etc.  However, when my system runs a spy-ware scan is seems to corrupt Nvidea files.  My system will run fine untill I reboot.  Then the problems start...and I have to uninstall and reinstall the Nvidea software.  Oh, this needs to be done with the Anti-Virus software disabled, or it will not uninstall correctly.  This will cause more problems if not correctly and completly uninstalled.  Then you will be able reinstall and reconfigure the Nvidea Software & Drivers.  Minimum 3 re-boots if done correctly.  I have been through this several times, many, many, many re-boots, uninstalls, and reinstalls.  I have not dismissed Zone Alarm of any resposibility at this point....I havent had time to pursue this further.

    -  The card does what it is suposed to very nicely when the above is not a factor.  Great card, but could use a little more work on software and compatibility issues....Especialy the install and uninstall process.

    -   This is not a Gamer Card.  But I would like to be able to use it with Microsoft Flight Simulator X....Do you have optimization settings for Flight Simulator X....The Generic settings with aplication control dont seem to work to the cards potential...Some areas seem to have compatibility issues and do not function correctly.

Thanks....from a long time Loyal Nvidea customer.

Re: If you haven't heard yet...[yay]

Now that ATI is publishing specs on their graphics cards, when will nVidia do the same to that proper open source graphics drivers can be written.  It is nice, but not sufficient that nVidia creates binary  Linux drivers. Many Linux distributions refuse to ship or support proprietary binary drivers.   Unless nVidia does something different, my next system will likely contain ATI video card.  (I'm a long time Fedora user, starting back with RedHat 7.)

Q: ok, i keep hearing about how soon, the GPU and CPU will be combined. is the R&D department working on this or do you have any info on this?

Q: why is it that DX10 runs so much slower on vista than DX9? i know that DX10 has more graphics, but shouldn't the new architecture aid in that?

Re: If you haven't heard yet...[yay]

OK, I have a question I think hasn't been discussed yet.

I am a long time Nview user and love the multi-screen > multi-tasking abilities thereof. Nvidia does kick competitors butt when multi monitors are considered (ATI isn't in the same league) with software. I do lots of Photoshop and movie editing, research, and computer builds/repair. where I find nview as playing a vital part in all of my computing needs. Even email becomes easier with two screens.

To the question- Each year the Video/Graphics Card gets stronger, more powerfull, and obviously more attention. When will it be time to add a little to the software side as in the nview application? Through the years I've seen a couple of new graphics or a new wizard interface, but it is still pertaining to the same old tricks from some time ago. Can we get maybe a few more tricks or even support for three.. four.. monitors and tricks in displaying consecutively?

Re: If you haven't heard yet...[yay]

The Active Armor Firewall has created many undesirable issues. Nvidia installes this firewall automatically into ythe system when a new MotherBoard is installed. This will thus add a second firewall. Provided other firewalls are desired by the customer.

Active Armor firewall can not be removed it seems and is overbearing with its control. There are times this firewall will be an interference with online activity and needs to be disabled. There are many forums about the issues with this firewall and you must know about it. Maybe by now you have taken control of this issue and corrected it for your customers. If so please respond here to clarify my concerns.

Would Nvidia please make an option to permit removal of this undesirable feature if it is not wanted? I found Active Armor most annoying and don't see where Nvidia see fit to push a product other than there first party Nvidia drivers onto their customers. Very rude in my opinion and if I had a choice Nvidia would be my second choice instead of an only choice.

Maybe by now you have taken control of this issue and corrected it for your customers. If so please respond here to clarify my concerns.

Please describe your thoughts on this matter and why your decision at conclusion.

    Thanks

     Larry

Re: If you haven't heard yet...[yay]

There are people just getting into gaming, Nvidia and all the companies should make it easier for those who are new to quickly understand what card will work in their system or what they need to do to their system to make a certain card function correctly.  I hate that I basically have to ask complete strangers in forums and the like just to find out what card to buy.
