Anyone else think "Diablo II" when they hear "hacks" or am I just old that cool?

Re: Hacking vs "so called" Skill

    heck yeah.

I had a bud of mine, he decided it'd be cool after he got a 99 barb to go on open battle.net and find someone to hack his char. He now goes through single-player with crazy stats and like 120000%MF!!!!

He can 1-hit Baal on Hell difficulty. Guns

I never made it to 99, especially on single-player. Even on closed battle.net, somebody hacked my acct and stole stuff Sad Ah well, at least they didn't do anything major to my chars.

Highest I got was 75 sorc...ah the good ole days... *crosses fingers for Diablo III*

I think of getting up in the morning when I hear "hacks"

My younger kid has been banned from several servers for cheating. He cries, I laugh like heck.

But to fix my asterisk, he started his own :

"Hey, why is the internet light going like a SOB?"

"I dunno Dad" "Maybe something is updating"

    "For a day and a half non-stop?"

                     "I dunno"

Re: Hacking vs "so called" Skill

That video seems staged to me.  Someone yells I think this guy is cheating then they decide like that he is a cheater and 1 guy that is not really much bigger than the cheater is able to carry him out by himself.  The guy did not look very upset when the pc got destroyed either.  Also as the whole thing is on video that guy would have no troubles pressing charges for destruction of property as the one(s) that destroyed the pc is on tape plus suing in small claims court would be pretty easy as well.

I agree, it did look a little staged. I'd be p****dDieDie if someone did that to my rig, as I'm sure most people would.

Hmm, wonder if that was in a contract he had to sign before entering the tournament? "Cheating will get your computer destroyed!" probably not...

Re: Hacking vs "so called" Skill

IMHO of the video I think that it was to make a statement about cheaters at LAN party. Also that did not look like a $2000 rig. But it is sure funny to watch.

I do see a fair share of cheaters on SC:S, BF2142, BF2. It does irk me a little when some of us are there to have fun and then a cheater appears on the server. One of the servers for CS:S the admins are always there as well, and they are good at banning the individual.

I first saw this video several years ago and it was old when I saw it. Computer equipment has gotten a lot cheaper for near top end performance.

I paid $3000 for a Leading Edge 386 with a whopping 1 GB hard drive and a Rage 3D video card in the 1990s and that was pretty high end.  A system with close to top performance nowadays would only run $1500 or so.  Adjusting for inflation, about $900 in 1990 dollars.

That vid looks a little more resent to me. And yes I know how much systems cost back in the early 90's.

This staged video first appeared in 2001.  The computer was a fake system so I guess they just made up the price tag.

Lol, figured, the PC looked sorda odd when they threw it, it didn't break right, not too mention it was a very older case, the case is a 15-18 year old design used by IBM and a few others, forgot the exact name...

It still is funny, but as sic said, the legal issues there would've been very interesting...Big Smile

Re: Hacking vs "so called" Skill

I started playing CSS over 3 years ago, and I did download a set of hacks, just to see what the options were and experiment with them for a couple days. I removed them right afterwards and have never used them since. But, like some people have mentioned, there are lots of people that like to accuse others of hacking, when clearly they just lack any actual skill whatsoever. When you play a game for a long time, you get very familiar with the maps, you learn a lot of strategy, and with a good sound card and speaker/headphone set, you're able to hear the enemy long before you see them. It's amazing how so many people seem to be unable to grasp that concept, and instead just accuse the person of hacking.

Also, lots of times you will be playing a game with friends and if you communicate via teamspeak of ventrilio you can give each other intel as to location and numbers of the enemy forces.  This "help" is invisible to the lone wolf gamer who seems to be tagged with a neon sign even when well hidden.

Yeah, "ghosting" can be effective when you're using Ventrilo or Teamspeak. I know some players consider that to be cheap, but you use the tools available to you.

Re: Hacking vs "so called" Skill

I used to look down on gamers that would hack or cheat to win but the truth is many gamers do not have the skills to play with in the set rules and need to do that to "play" the game to the end.  Not all gamers have the same skills.  Just like in the real.
