The main things that seems to clean up a case for me are mounting your Hard drives backwards and runing as many cables as you can around the back of the case. And you can never seem to use too many zip ties lol

I had to cut a hole for the cables in the mobo tray and modify the toolless drive rails because the stock cable management in the case flat out sucked. That's what really made it turn out so well. Spending a few hours moddifying your case match your parts can make a night and day difference.

I also try to stick to mobos with the sideways sata ports

Ahhh...see modding a case always terrified me, since if I mess up, there goes a once-pristine case (or so goes my fearful thinking). Your build really makes me want to try it though.

Re: *Sticky* What is in your Rig?

I haven't built it yet, as I just ordered the parts earlier today, but I will list them anyway. Pictures will come next week hopefully!

    Processor - AMD Athlon II

    Memory - Crucial 4Gig (2GBx2)

    HDD - WD Caviar Blue 250GB 7200RPM 3.0Gb/s

Video Card - Nvidia GeForce 9800GT

Motherboard - Gigabyte MA770 ATX AMD

    PSU - Corsair 400W

OS - Windows Vista x64 with FREE Win7 Upgrade

Case - Antec Three Hundred Black Steel

Monitor - I wasn't going to include anything I already have/is integrated, but this is worth saying. Sadly, I have to keep using this 15" CRT monitor that was given to me from someone for free. I think it was bundled with a Dell Dimension 4600 or something. I will be playing games on it at 1024x960 and will have to wait until X-Mas to get money to buy another. >.<

First time building from scratch.  Here's the wishlist.

    http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=10715711

OK, got her up and running.  Was a bit nerve racking at first, especially handling the core, doing the heatsink and thermal paste stuff, but after that, it was just snapping, screwing, and running wires.  Took me about 12 hours with lots of breaks and re-reading how-tos, etc.  Cable management came out pretty good, but the back (no pics) is half neat, and it is a struggle to get the other side to the case on. Cables cant be more than one deep for the most part, and the main power wire is almost too thick by itself.  However, got it on and Im not taking it back off. :)

Running at 45C average with all fans on low for the Mobo and CPU.  Havent seen it above 55 yet even in a spike, and I opened about 50 IE8s with flash in the page.  Only OC/Bios adjustments was the XMP changes to 1600 7/7/7/7 etc for RAM.

Pics below.  Thanks for your help n0lxx.  And to all those soon to be first time builders - it isnt that bad, go for it!

My specs, as well as my Wifes specs, are in my sig. I built these twin rigs when I joined this board in May.

To this date, both can do anything without any issues at all! Wink

Re: *Sticky* What is in your Rig?

Heres the gist of what i have. My first built rig.

    I-7 2.66 Ghz Processor
1 TB WD Caviar Black Hard Drive
    12GB OCZ DDR3 1600 RAM
    LG Blu ray Burner
    ASUS P6T LGA 1366 mobo
    Zalman CPU Cooler
    GTX 260 GPU
    750 W Thermaltake PSU
    Acer 23" Full 1080p Monitor
    Logitech Wireless Keyboard/Mouse
    Cooler Master Centurion 5

I added a case fan to the side panel and it sits directly above the CPU cooler so it cools it down more. I'll be adding another case fan to the side panel but this time it will sit on top of the massive GTX 260.

Re: *Sticky* What is in your Rig?

This is my current system as it currently is:

    AMD Phenom II x4 940

    G.SKILL 2GB DDR2 800 x4

    HITACHI 1TB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA

EVGA 512-P3-N973-TR GeForce 9800 GT x2 (in SLI)

    BIOSTAR TPower N750

    HT | OMEGA STRIKER 7.1

    Rosewill Xtreme Series RX850-S-B 850W

    Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit

    NZXT Tempest

    SONY Black 18X DVD±R DVD Burner x2

    Rosewill 52-in-1 card reader

    The PROS:

The case is big, holding up to 8 hard drives, fans everywhere to keep everything cool, and pre-setup to handle a water cooling system.  The audio card is the best card you never heard of. I was suspicious at first but was pleasantly surprised at how well it works, glad I didn't go with SB this time. Video cards in SLI are simply awesome handles everything I throw at them. Just upgraded to the quad-core from a dual-core 6000+. Not that I wasn't pleased with the dual-core, just that I like to max my systems out. About the M/B, supposedly supports up to 16GB but don't got the ~$500 for it.

    The CONS:

Biostar support is pitiful, plain and simple.  For some reason the on-board audio went out, thus the sound card, I never got a reply from thier support team. The memory is right next to the cpu cooler and gets a lot of heat from it. Ditto for the primary video card.  The case doesn't have a good cable management system. As for the power supply, I should've went for a modular one. Oh well, live and learn.

     Other Thoughts:

I would eventually like to max out the hard drives for the case, totalling 8TB, and add an external Blu-Ray burner. Other than that I am looking for a good WIRED MM keyboard and laser mouse and 2x 1080p monitors.

Would appreciate any constructive comments and advice.

Re: *Sticky* What is in your Rig?

I just built this rig 2 weeks ago:

(Let me know what you guys think)

    i7 920 @ 2.66GHz (I'll overclock once I get the cpu cooler below)

    Noctua NH-U12P SE1366

    OCZ Platinum 3x2GB DDR3 1600

Asus P6T SE (This has 2x pci-e lanes that actually run at x16 unlike many boards)

    2x XFX HD 4870 1GB (In Xfire, hence the importance of 2 x16 pci-e lanes rather than 1 x16 and 1 x8 like many SLI/Xfire boards)

WD Caviar Black 1TB 7200rpm Sata

Silverstone ST70F 700W (Modular is a dream to work with)

HP 24X Multiformat DVD DL burner w/ Lightscribe

Thermaltake Armor+ MX (very roomy mid-tower)

    Windows Vista x64 Ultimate

    For Peripherals:

(Had all of these with my previous rig)

    Sceptre 20.1" LCD 1680x1050

    Klipsch 5.1 Promedia Ultra Speakers

    Logitech G11 Keyboard

    Logitech G5 v2 Mouse

^ Thanks!  For the price there was absolutely no question about it!  I'm not partial to Nvidia or AMD as I've owned multiple cards from both over the years but right now the 4870 is the reigning king of price/performance and XFX has a great reputation.

XFX FTW. I had a VisionTek 4850OC'd before I got this XFX 4850; the XFX non-OC'd performs better, lol. So I'll be getting a second form them & Crossfiring them, to be sure. And they don't void your warranty for OC'ing. :D

    Processor - Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping

    Motherboard - Gigabyte EX58-UD4P

    Memory - Corsair XMS3 3 x 2GB DDR3 1600

Hard Drive - Western Digital Caviar Black 1 TB with an iStarUSA iStorm Hard Drive Cooler

    Power Supply - Thermaltake Toughpower W0178RU 850w

Video Card - EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked Edition

    Case - Azza Solano 1000

Operating System - Windows Vista Premium 64 bit

    Monitor - Acer X193Wb 19" Widescreen LCD

DVD Drive - Sony Optiarc 24X CD/DVD RW

I got this for about $1550 but I'm expecting about $300 in rebates and cashback.

I'm using the stock heatsink right now since I'm not overclocking but I'll probably upgrade to something better in the future. I'm also planning to upgrade my video card and go SLI in the future. I'll probably give the current video card to my sister when I build an i5 or AMD computer for her. Depending on when I build my sister's computer, other parts may also be upgraded/canninbalized too.

Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to play around with this computer as I just built it two weeks ago and I'm out of the country right now and won't return for 3 weeks.

Re: *Sticky* What is in your Rig?

My first build eva. Turned out perfect!

AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE processor

6GB DDR3 PC3-10600 (Running in dual channel, 2x2GB in one, 2GB in the other, not sure how.) ram

    1.5T HDD

Two ATI Radeon 4850 graphics cards in XF mode.

DFI LP DK  790FXB M3H5 motherboard

    Integrated 7.1 channel sound card

    Azza Dynamo 650W PSU

    2.1 Dell Speakers

Windows Vista 64bit, Windows XP 32bit, Ubuntu

Way too freaking many fans. Below is why.

    Xclio A380PLUS case (360mm fan + 2x 200mm fan + 120mm fans stock.)

    Logitech Wave wireless keyboard.

Some wireless mouse that came with my keyboard.

    Dell 19" 1280x1024 Monitor

I've got my processor overclocked to 3.8GHz. Gonna try and get it to 4, but I'm new to OC. I had a Dell XPS 200 before I built this computer :S.
