Confused [*-)] Re: What's your job?

I am a Sergeant at a Sheriff's Office, but over the last several months they have turned me into an "application specialist" by purchasing a new software suite, CAD, mobile dispatch, RMS, etc.  I then got "thrown under the bus" when they needed someone to be the build team.  I have learned more about computers and software than I ever thought I would, nay.... than I ever wanted to!!  But I must say, I now have answers!

You can run, but you can't hide

    Re: What's your job?

I am a research engineer for a major automotive manufacturer based in Germany. I work with many others in the industry to create a new class of smart devices for all vehicles that will -- we hope -- substantially reduce avoidable accidents. They do so by collecting anonymous extra-vehicular data (at broadband datarates) from well beyond the range of radar and often beyond vision (ie. around corners), all as you drive at speed. I am currently teaching them how to read all traffic signals in range at once, several times a second, as well as understand the local map at the lane level. First demo was a complete success. You won't see the technology for a few years, though. A great deal of work remains to be done.

Get that **** done! Wink ... I just want a car that'll drive itself, so that I can sit back and read, sleep, surf the Egg forums... and generally just to make driving a safer thing. I just like the idea of adding 20-30 minutes or more to my day. Valuable time to pick up a manga and start reading, and keep those lonely brain cells chuggin along.

I used to be the lead Database Administrator at Lucent Technologies' (now Alcatel-Lucent) headquarters in New Jersey. Now I work at Microsoft doing in-house security auditing for MS SQL Server. I don't really audit as much as I manage the auditors - we have layers and layers of management.
