    Re: Can't OC past 2.7Ghz

Checked, that one has been disabled

i skiped the 2.7 to 2.9Ghz and it worked but it was very unstable or something(it kept freezing and beeping and couldnt do anything)and i had the Core volts to 1.3v so i switched it down to 2.8 and it failed, i cleared bios.....

    Re: Can't OC past 2.7Ghz

That is why I suggested you jump to 3.0ghz you could run your core voltage to 1.35 and see if that stabilizes it, just make sure you go back thru BIOS and disable all the ones I have listed and add HPET to the list of disabled too. I think I will call it a night I have to get things going tomorrow for the EAST Coast Eggxpert get together next weekend and just maybe an idea will come to me on your problem.

ok thanks for helping, ill try those settings in a while. and do i disable those after i  OC or before? im thinking before.....not sure

    Re: Can't OC past 2.7Ghz

Change your CPU mutliplier to 6 instead of 9 and just concentrate on FSB speed for now.

If you are looking for 3Ghz set the FSB to 333 and mutliplier to 6, then make sure the RAM is running under the stock timings and clock speed.

If it is stable(just do what ever would cause a freeze right now to test stability) increase the multiplier back up to 9 and test stability again. If it is unstable at 9 increase the core voltage by quite a few notches.

Also enable Load Line Calibration, it could be called LLC, vdroop or vdrop control.  I'ms sure there are more names for it but those are the only ones I can think of right now.

You are correct, before you OC. No bright ideas yet but I'm still thinking on it.

    Re: Can't OC past 2.7Ghz

k well when i skipped to 3.0Ghz it froze the first second under IntelBurntest and then i changed the volts up and it froze again so i checked again and the cpu fsb was set to 1.5v on auto so i switched it down to 1.375v and it didnt freeze anymore but the test failed.....

ill try the multiplier on 6 right now. do i leave the cpu fsb volts at Auto? even if it changes it to 1.5 by itself?

    Re: Can't OC past 2.7Ghz

Yes leave it in auto and check back on it if you get it to run stable, you may want to get a notepad and keep records of all your settings with the results listed as well. Also keep a list of what your temps are reading this way you have a record and won't duplicate your settings or you may even find a pattern in the results.

    Re: Can't OC past 2.7Ghz

from 2.4-2.695Ghz, regular OC no problems, temps from 30idle-50full load and one core at +70mv,

from 2.695(skip)--->2.9/3.0Ghz.......if i leave the volts on auto it freezes(cpu fsb 1.5v) when i run stress test, but if i change them to a green setting it doesnt but it fails the tests.(with temps of 32idle and 55full load with volts up to 1.4) and one of the cores has a +90mv setting on auto

now if i change the multiplier to 6 and set the fsb to make it under 2.0Ghz it wont boot, so i change fsb to 1333 and core volts auto(1.55), fsb volts auto(1.5)(temps fo 38idle and 58 full load)and it freezes(seconds into the test), change the core volts to 1.3 and move up one setting at a time to 1.4) and with each setting test fails......with fsb volts to 1.350(freezes at 1.5)

those are all the settings ive tried with everything disabled(HPET, C1E, etc. and vdroop Enabled)

    Re: Can't OC past 2.7Ghz

Going by all the info it looks like you either have a non OCer or 1 core is border line bad. I just can not figure why it will not OC, even double checked in some of my books and could not find anything wrong with what has been done.

can i turn off the bad core and see if it works? or will turning it off damage or do something?

OR............u can buy me a new Q6600 and if it OCs it was the cpu :D....j/k...j/k

    Re: Can't OC past 2.7Ghz

Not that I know of, shoot if I had the money to do that I'd be replacing my VC and monitor. The kids and grandkids are already screaming for another computer and I have 3 more to build for needy families if I ever get enough donations!! HA,HA. The oldest daughter was just here yesterday hinting that she needs a new computer so if I build here a newer one then she donates the old one and I have to refurbish it for a needy family.

    Re: Can't OC past 2.7Ghz

So if i disable the core it would work?

Nice....wish i could help, but im giving my old comp to a friend(P3 933mhz) and took me forever to even get this one.....4weeks working.....(2weeks per year) when i was 13, got it at 15.

Well if that doesnt work them im going to have to stick with 2.6Ghz

    Re: Can't OC past 2.7Ghz

I did not know you could disable a core but then again I never checked into it. Hey that is great as long as you are paying it forwards good for you.

    Re: Can't OC past 2.7Ghz

If you want to disable a number of cores, go to run and type MSCONFIG then click the BOOT.INI tab, click the advanced options button, check number of processors and set it to the number you wish to use. The names I used are the ones for XP but Vista is mostly the same just with different names.

Make sure you have the PCI Express clock locked at 100Mhz and the PCI clock is at 33Mhz, lower can cause problems and sometimes slightly higher can help but before long it causes problems again.  Also try higher Northbridge voltage or MCH voltage.(Names can vary depending on the motherboard)

    Re: Can't OC past 2.7Ghz

I've had it for around 5 months now, trying not to burn it too.(Off topics:One of my friends just bought a computer build from newegg, what gets me mad is that its better than mine....and he didnt pay a cent for it....)

Do i disable the processors on windows and on bios too? or just on bios or windows? and is turning off cores the same as turning off 1/4 or 1/2 of wut u paid for??

Do i add volts on Northbridge to OC with 4 cores or with 3 or 2 or just whenever i OC?(its at 1.4v currently)

    Re: Can't OC past 2.7Ghz

If your motherboard has an option to disable cores in BIOS use that instead of the Windows tweak.

Increasing northbridge voltage is good for most any overclocking. Once it reaches a certain point, just like all voltages, increasing it will begin to do more harm than good because of the increase in temperature.

What is the northbridge temperature at right now?

    Re: Can't OC past 2.7Ghz

if i check the temperatures on bios it says 17C or 20C

  •  07-06-2009, 10:14 PM 543036 in reply to 543031

    Re: Can't OC past 2.7Ghz

Have you tried updating the motherboard BIOS?

17C would be about 63F which is unrealistic unless your ambient temperature is extremely low.

    Re: Can't OC past 2.7Ghz

    yea...latest bios, 2 days ago...

it went down to 15C or under 60F once......

maybe its the 120mm duct that blows 20C air into the side of the case directly on the motherboard and GPU(29C).......maybe

nvm....my lowest temp are 14C 57F......currently those, but its night tho...during the day they are around 20C

    Re: Can't OC past 2.7Ghz

there ain't know way you could have temps at 14c unless you using your computer in a meat locker,,right now my house is 78F and my cpu temp is 31C and i'm using a Sunbeam CC cooler with 2 120mm 88cfm fans (intake and exhaust) and a 88cfm 120mm on my CPU, now in the winter when the house is around 68F my cpu runs around 22C,,there is just no way you could br running 14C,,,you can't get core temps using an air cooler lower than ambient, i suggest you d/l Core Temp and get some actual readings,,,your pumping 72F air into your box and telling us your CPU/core temp is 60F,,,ain't gonna happen dude

    Re: Can't OC past 2.7Ghz

well....my room temp is around 70F and the air going into the Computer(120mm side) is at 60F(put the thermometer from the case into the duct) and my cpu temps are 28C(at 2.695Ghz)(the duct is connected into the AC air out).We were talking about the northbridge temps. (I thought 60F was 20C)
