The original game is Prophecies, but you can also just buy Factions or NightFall as they both have their own map/starting points.  The Eye of the North expansion is the only one that requires that you have one of the other 3 versions. 

Every version I have bought has come with a free 10 hours that you can use on the other maps so you can always try out a bit of the other maps.

My Wife and I are both Guild Wars junkies as well as our Daughter and few of her family.

We haven't been on for a while but we have all the expansions and bonus packs. 

I haven't been playing very much lately, but I started playing this game when it was in it's alpha stage, and I played on the open beta weekends.  I have all games/xpac and have beaten all 4 campaigns.

Redguard of Balmora - my lvl 15 Warrior.  Still in pre-ascalon.  Trying to get the lvl 20 achievement (someday).
Margarita Zuniga - lvl 20 Monk I named after my now ex-gf.  Have some pretty nice haste/55/bonder builds.  She's got white glowing hands.
Blood and Ecstasy - lvl 20 Necro.  Use to play her a lot until they nerfed B/P groups.

I don't PVP at all really, not since Factions came out.  I just play PVE casually from time to time.
