Okay, got it... Ill keep searching and keep you posted if I find anything that looks good.  If I can get a good price on these bose speakers, I might even be able to get up in the range for Subs, in which case a real sub might be possible.

Quick question, the receiver I bought, the 1000W RCA (rt2770 I believe)... Its a 5.1, I have a 7 speaker system.  I tried to research to no avail, can I attach two speakers into say, the rear speaker input by simply twisting cords, or is there a special splitter required?

You'd run into impedance issues and could overload your receiver if you plugged in more than one speaker in a terminal. However, many receivers have two front output pairs for 4 possible front speakers (Front A and B). If you really needed the extra two speakers, you could go that route.

    Re: Music Streaming

Hey there.  I found this site from Googling Yambeka Audio.  I just bought these speakers  2 weeks ago from the company in Columbus Ohio, and I must say that I am BLOWN away by the quality of these speakers....not only do they sound awesome - they look pretty darn good as well.  Kudos to this company - now all I have to find is a 7.0 Receiver.  So far I have been only able to hook up 5 of the speakers but I bought the 7 speaker system.  Any recommendations on a quality low cost receiver (under $300).

    Thanks

    Joey

You bought the exact same set of speakers I bought, guess Im not alone in finding this company.  Im still waiting on my speaker cables though so I havent hooked mine up yet.... honestly Id just suggest craigslist, I personally havent found a 7.1 receiver yet, but Im still looking, I bought a 5.1 digital 1000w receiver, which Im hoping will do the trick, but if not Ill just resell it and look for a 7.1.

Question to you then since mine arent hooked up, how do you feel the bass on it is, seeing as it has dual 8" subs.  For parties and what not, you think an independent sub is really necessary?

With the capability to handle only 80w per front speaker (combined over all speakers in that cabinet), I don't think you'll get anything too impressive out of those built in subs when compared to a standalone powered subwoofer.

I wonder how good the crossover is on those speakers...

Okay, Im looking for a 6.1/7.1 receiver now, I already have a buyer for the receiver I bought for more then I sold it for.  What do I need to know when looking for a receiver so I can search for it on my own, seeing as the 7 speakers I have total 360 watts, + whatever subwoofer I end up picking up (Finding a subwoofer has proven a lot harder then I thought).  What information about a receiver do I need to look into, obviously Ill google reviews, but technical things Id have to look into personally

Wattage doesn't matter. Many companies will try to sell you the receiver with the highest wattage output, when it really doesn't mean jack, especially when all your bass is being driven by a dedicated sub.

Stick with good, well known brands, such as Pioneer, Yamaha, Denon, and so forth. Don't bother with cheap **** like Insignia or any newer Sony receiver.  Most of all, read reviews.

The difference in these receivers is their ability to output different surround formats (Dolby ProLogic I and II, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, DTS, DTS-ES, etc) and their video switching capabilities. You obviously don't need too many of those, so any decent 7.1 receiver will do as long as its a reputable company.

Time to order them both then... btw I tested the speakers on the old receiver, while I havent wired them up for surround sound yet, Im just going to say the individual sound is crisp and gets to a nice volume... Since Im ordering a receiver with Wireless, Ill be able to hook up my 7.1 to the receiver to my laptop, and my old 2 speaker + sub system also to the laptop, providing yet more volume for parties.  Im excited

There's more to loudness than just adding more speakers man. I know you want it loud but I don't think you understand how these things work.

    Try this: http://myhometheater.homestead.com/splcalculator.html

This will give you a good idea of what to expect. Play around with the values and you'll see what actually makes the biggest difference. Read up on the whole page too, as it has some good information to know. Adding more speakers on a different system can also cause the sound waves to interfere and may cause unwanted distortion or even cancelling of sound. By adding another system to the mix, you can very wel **lower** your overall SPL, and it will probably sound like a** anyway.

Also calcuate the difference in SPL going from a 300W amp to a 1000W amp and you'll also find that wattage means nearly nothing when it comes to home theater.

So I figured since I have it all setup now, Id let you know how it went.  I have 5 of the speakers setup, sound amazing for both surround, and when I throw parties.  The sub is a charm too.  The cables while can be a total hastle to cut, seem to also be great.  However the new Receiver I bought (JVC RXD302B) literally came up smoking a few minutes into playtime.  So Im using my other RCA 1000W 5.1 til they send me a new JVC.  But yeah, it all sounds terrific, watching Band of Brothers atm in Surround Sound, its fantastic, appreciate it Xtreme

Glad to know it all went well. Its always nice to have as kickass sound system. You made a good move even if you did spend a bit more, because speakers last a LONG time. You constantly see people using the systems they bought 15-20 years ago when they were younger, so unlike computers, they're a great investment.

As for that amp, see if you have A and B outputs for front speakers and you can wire your other surrounds that way without a problem till your amp gets replaced. Once they get you a new JVC, what do you plan on doing with that RCA amp?

Im planning on holding onto the RCA until Im 100% positive I can get the JVC running well, which might involve throwing at least one dedicated fan just to always pointing into the receiver.  After which, Ill probably sell the RCA receiver, Ive had some decent offers on it as is.  The RCA feature wise cant nearly compare to the JVC, but at least leaving the RCA on for hours on end to watch tv/movies it still seems to run barely hotter then room temperature.  Whereas the JVC is known to run closer to 120 degrees just after moderate use

So what kind of features are you looking for? Is the addition of two speakers (which really don't add to loudness much anyway) going to mean that much for you? Seems like that JVC unit is complete **** if it heats up that high after moderate use. I blast my Yahama 660W amp pretty loud and it gets warm but doesn't get hot.

    Re: Music Streaming

Well, I liked the 7.1s ability to run an A and B, so I can throw 2 speakers in my basement, so when I throw parties down there, I leave it on the B so I can just leave those 2 speakers running loud enough to be heard over 100 people in way too small of an area.  Also, I bought the receiver off a company on Ebay, so I gotta try for a new one, if this one does the same, then Ill have grounds to argue for a refund, then Ill be back at you asking for new options in the $150-200 receiver 7.1 receiver range.  Hopefully this receiver was just exceptionally defective, if not at least the companies paying for all the shipping and I still have my old 5.1.

So get this.... I throw a party friday night, since I had just received the new JVC receiver again, I decided to hook it up.  Except I was cautious this time, I ran two fans on it, one on each side directed straight at it, on max.  Worked wonderfully for a while, hooked it up at 7 pm.  Around 2 am, I hear click click, that is apparently the soundtrack to my dead receiver as once again it wont turn on.

Since now Im going to have to ask for a refund, any new suggestions on a good 7.1 receiver in the same price range ($150 approx), I really dont need tons of features, I just need 7 spots for speakers, my subwoofer, an ability to hook my 360/TV/one other digital cable into it.  Oh and preferably Id like one that can run somewhere under the temperature of 900 degrees (fire).  Thanks

Sorry  man, but I'm going to have to "LOL" at the concept of a "good" 7.1 receiver for the kind of volumes you want to be playing for $150.

That's what I've been telling you to do this whole time. If you read up through my posts, I advised plugging in the side speakers from the 7.1 configuration into the front B output on a 5.1 receiver. I just figured you insisted on having true 7.1 surround. With music though, it really doesn't matter.

For the record though, the amount of loudness you'll gain from two additional speakers will be pretty minimal. I'd stick with the 5.1 receiver you're using, as it seems to be a much better quality unit than the JVC.

    Re: Music Streaming

And as Ive been apparently been zoning out your constant attempts to get me to listen to your 5.1 argument, Ive been struggling with what seems to be an overpriced smokemachine as thats all Ive seemed to get out of my JVC.

But anyway, my RCA 5.1 doesnt have the A & B or else I wouldve possibly listened you your logic.

I think I said it before though, Im not using the extra 2 speakers for volume, Im wiring them into my basement (winter) and porch (spring), so that I dont need to move speakers whenever I have people downstairs or outside, instead I just need to plan ahead and hit A or B.
