Re: Q9450/X38 Maximus Formula OC Opinion

Confused Temperatures not looking so good actually: at 3.2 Ghz, Realtemp reads:

    46-49 C Idle
    56-60 C Load

    Ambient Approx 75 F

I've tried different reseats of my Zalman 9700 with AS5 [line application, spread application, a little, a lot, medium], as well as the included Zalman Super Thermal Grease. These current numbers are with the Zalman Super Grease that I applied today, hopefully they'll go down after it cures... The AS5 never hit below those temps even after curing. I've got my case fans going at pretty high speeds, but I dont mind because the P180B is pretty good at sound dampening, and I bought a bunch of Antec Silicone Grommets to dampen vibration even more . I have no idea why my system is running so hot though =/

Yea, it is a hot CPU, or atleast maybe nothing can read the temps accurately, I donno.

I'm actually trying Artic Cremique a shot, lol, It's doing about the same as AS5 did. there was another I wanted to try that lowboy suggested, but for the life of me I can't remember the name of it, lol.

---ques lowboy to chime in--               hahaha

My temps read about the same as yours do now.

When I had AS5 on kinda thick, the CPU went to 75c, lol but never faulted in Prime95 so I kinda wonder on the temp readings.

So i gotta say, overclocking the CPU has revealed that the CPU speed was a bottleneck for my CF 4850s; at 3.2ghz, I get a 5FPS bump on Very High settings 1680x1050 4xAA on Vista 64.

5fps is a nice gain for Crysis.  You know, I didn't even get back into gaming since I built this one, been to busy with the OC, repairing my cars and replacing employees that needed to be fired, lol, heck of a month it has been.

yeah it is, but my temps have me pretty concerned now... I dont want to have it idling around 50 nowdays... Especially since I plan on leaving the computer on over long times because it'll be a FTP server as well. Too bad Newegg discontinued the Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme, or I'd grab that right now...

Re: Q9450/X38 Maximus Formula OC Opinion

Not bad. I'll wait for my replacement CPU Cooler to get here before pushing above 3.2. WIth the AS5 completing it's curing cycle and still idling at 47, it has me a bit concerned... I Load at 64 Indifferent...  need to get me the thermalright ultra-120 extreme

Re: Q9450/X38 Maximus Formula OC Opinion

Sorry if I "interfere" in this Maximus Formula's thread: I have a Gigabyte X38 DQ6 and I am looking for experiences with Q9450 OC to share. I was a bit surprised to read that many people here seem to find this CPU quite hot while in my opinion it runs very cool, particularly when compared to the E6600 I had before.

My current OC is 3.4Ghz (FSB 425), all voltages left at stock value. My idle/load temperatures are 30C/50C with a Noctua NH-C12P, no matter if I leave the FSB at 333 or OC it to 425. I tried to push the OC further but failed: I think I'd need to bump both CPU and NB voltages up a bit.

Currently I'm running the FSB:MEM ratio @ 5:6 with OCZ Platinum PC2-8000 slightly OC'ed at 1024. Originally I was aiming to run this CPU at 3.6 Ghz, ratio 1:1 but I'm not sure if I want to fiddle with the Bios settings as already this CPU works like a charm. According to Everest, performance is better @ 3.4 5:6 than 3.5 1:1 (i could boot, run Everest's test but hanged immediately when I started Prime95).

I'd be happy to hear any comments and/or suggestions.

Re: Q9450/X38 Maximus Formula OC Opinion

Just to add on, I found if I run at 3.33GHz I can run a lower CPU voltage, I'm at 1.275 now and stabil as a rock. Although my RAM is now at 5-5-5-15 @1110MHz at 2.1V
