Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

    RPIer:
Are the people who placed orders on 11/27 (or after 11/26 but before 11/28) even being considered in this resolution? I saw the emails from NewEgg and PayPal, as well as the promotional banner on NewEgg's site, which prompted me to make a purchase. I called my Mom and asked her to purchase digital cameras for my sister and I (Christmas presents) because they would be a amazing price. I didn't know anything about these forums until late Tuesday/early Wednesday, nor was I expecting to see a special button for the 20% off...so I had no clue the promoted had possibly ended and that there was mass confusion regarding it. I just assumed that PayPal would reimburse you by 1/2008 if you made your purchase before the promotion's expiration date of 11/28 (though that was a little confusing, too, since it said the promotion could go until 12/10). I feel so shafted, because I couldn't even cancel my order and it was apparently shipped less than 24 hours after I had ordered it. :(

"I feel so shafted, because I couldn't even cancel my order and it was apparently shipped less than 24 hours after I had ordered it. :("

    First time buying from Newegg?

Thats Newegg... Process orders fast and ships fast too...

Thanks for doing that, root.  This is certainly something that NewEgg has needed to do all week long.

One thing: folks arriving to your post and then clicking over to your locked information thread may not necessarily see the "Enable Email Subscription" button as described.  They have to be logged in to see it.  This may be obvious to most, but I'm thinking it may not be to some if they are less prolific Web users, especially arriving from the DailyTech link (and the bazillion places where the DailyTech story is hyperlinked from).

    Again, thanks.

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

They have made themselves clear to me---

    "Dear(FORMER CUSTMER),

    Thank you for contacting Newegg.

Unfortunately, the promotion has ended before 2:30pm PST on 11/26/2007. This promotion was sponsored by Paypal which a set amount of funds were provided for the promotion, and all orders must be placed while the supply lasts. Please know that the cash back is not provided through Newegg, nor does Newegg have any control over the promotion. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you."

Screw these guys.If they need my $8 that bad they can have it.

Read my order history and weep, *****!!!! GOODBYE!!!!!!!!!

Ah, thanks. I forget sometimes that what I see is due to some tweaking that I did almost 8 months ago Yes

Oh, I see what you mean. Stupid A.D.D. Ya, you have to be logged in. I was thinking there was a setting you had to enable in your account first but maybe that's not the case?

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

I'm also interested in knowing how NewEgg will be handling issues for people that placed their orders prior to the originally listed 11/28 cutoff.  I, for one received the e-mail that stated that purchases qualified up until that time, so I made my purchase on 11/27, and I have a screenshot of that e-mail as well.

I find it extremely frustrating that NewEgg/PayPal changed their terms multiple times on this; I have done thousands of dollars of business with NewEgg since 2001.  I would have saved around $42.00 with this order, which is one of the reasons I actually placed the order in the first place as opposed to waiting for another time.  While I did not see any promotional discounts applied, I assumed (since this has sometimes happened in previous PayPal deals with merchants) that that was not an issue, and that my account would be credited at some point.  Nor did the first e-mail of the sale to me imply that discounts were based on a pool of funds that would dry up.

I will be watching this closely, and may talk to someone in online chat to see how this was handled.  My item has already arrived, so I cannot cancel my order or refuse it.

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

my new egg package came today. Say what you will about the 20% fiasco, Newegg sure knows how to get product out the door. Which in this case seemed to have hurt them more then helped them. People couldn't cancel in time. Oh well, my purchase was made at 8am PST. So I'm all good. Thank you NewEgg for your outstanding service, Im sure you will take care of the poor souls that were unaware the promotion had ended.

I hope Newegg management shares your policy, because so far, some people are reporting that they've received various monetary compensations (up to $50?) while many have not. I asked for discount on shipping as a compensation when I was going to place $156 order after Paypal fiasco, but was denied. That is (hopefully going to be) ok, but if those who already have been compensated also receives whatever compensation that Newegg management is discussing now, then I'll be disappointed.

are you a d*** or just trying to sound like one?....got mine, good luck to the rest of you!...oh well....us "poor souls" didn't know the promotion had ended because the pages that linked you to Newegg still showed the deal as alive!!!...the page I linked from clearly stated that deal was still going until 11/28/2007........I've stated earlier for those following this thread that I'm not going to go crazy and compare Newegg with a Buy.com/Connect3d  or some other famous fiasco, but you know what?....Newegg was always held as the standard for great service, and rightfully so, but I won't lay down at that altar anymore....my deal was for a notebook mouse...thats it...no big ticket item, no $50 back or anything....but the csr rep had me so frustrated by telling me the deal was dead and that it had ended midday even though I directed him to the page that said exactly the opposite that I just threw in the towel....he offered to cancel my order & I accepted, it wasn't about the $10 or $12 bucks at this point...O.K. you win!!...Hey, I think we all know Newegg isn't going out of business...they offer a good product and have reliable service and about as fast a shipping channel as you'll find and they haven't lost me as a customer forever....but it left a bad taste and there were times when I chose Newegg over the competition even if it was a couple of bucks extra, just out of loyalty and because of the great service they offered....I just may go the other route now because obviously, even to them, its just about the money..........but hey......you got yours!!!!

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

    abreuma:
Well, I sent both newegg and paypal emails asking specifically if my order qualified for the 20% cash back promotion.  If I didn't make it in time I'll just refuse to receive the order and get the credit.

Talk about a thread that's gone all over the place...

Having gotten no response to my emails from either Newegg or Paypal I had started to plan on refusing delivery to get a credit.  No harm, no foul.  I eventually called Newegg to get an answer and was told my order submitted on 11/26 at 12:09 PST didn't make it in time for the promotion.  No problem, I'll do the delivery refusal thing.  Then I got a confusing and vague email from Paypal which on one hand said I would get the cash back bonus by 1/31/08 and on the other hand said I would get it if my order was submitted in time.

I had been watching the shipment tracking information and my item was out for delivery today so I told my wife to be watching for it and refuse it.  Then I saw what looks like a more official notice here about a 2:30PM cutoff time, so I called her back and told her to go ahead and accept the shipment if she was home.  I was surprised to discover that UPS had left the package on the porch without anyone home.  So the delivery refusal trick wasn't going to work.

One thing that's still not clear to me is which date/time these folks are going to use.  Is it the order submittal date/time or the paypal charge date/time?

It is the order submittal time.

Another classic bait and switch......  I hope I get my $50 back.  Otherwise, can this be reported as fraud?

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

just decided to post my situation. i placed my order after the since announced cut-off time. i had no idea this would not be honored. and since i did not know what indication to look for that would tell me the deal was off, i was not i a hurry to order. i was shopping.  i had numerous tabs open, trying to find the best deal on a nintendo ds and games to buy as a gift. i have 3 children that require my attention. i had to leave and come back to the pc numerous times. finally after putting kids to bed, i was able to order.
at the price i paid, without the paypal promotion, i could have purchased this many other places. the deal wasn't the only reason to buy at newegg, but it was a big reason. i was just telling my wife, "best buy sends it's customers 10% coupons, they are barely worth it", (since their prices are already 15% higher normally). my point is, this was a deal. above and beyond the other deals. great prices, plus 20% back in my pocket.

anyway, i hope i and others in my position are compensated some way. right now i have a canon all in one printer in my basket because it's $40 less than other places. but i haven't pulled the trigger yet. we'll see.

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

This fell flat on it's face for me, too. The day the promo email arrived, I clicked to see the extra Paypal 20% promo page: http://promotions.newegg.com/paypal/101607/index.html?CMP=OTC-PayPalHoliday07&ATT=Paypal&cm_mmc=OTC-PayPalHoliday07-_-PayPal-_-B0-_-Paypal Right at the top it says "Expires 11/28/2007" and I found myself interested in the N82E16817371010 power supply.

Well, long story short, the code PPAL1204CAPS01 refused to work. Even after I emptied the cart and signed on anew. I started a chat and after quite a wait (busy day, I'll wager) the rep came on and I explained the problem. Well, the answer was that the "first period has ended", "The new 2nd period will be launched on 11/30."

I don't know about anyone else, but I didn't seen this item/promo code in the latest email promo.

Chat Agent Darlene told me that you can still refuse delivery if you do not open the box and take it to a UPS location:

Darlene: Unfortunately no, we are not responsible for the return shipping fee.
Darlene: It is only free if you refuse the package.
Darlene: Or if you take the package to a UPS location by refusing it.
Me: You mean I can take the package to UPS location to refuse it, AFTER my apartment receives it?
Darlene: You can refuse a package if you do not open it.

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

I went with Newegg on my item (because of good history) and avoided Buy.com. Well, I could have ordered from Buy and used Google Checkout for an immediate $10 discount. I ordered on the 28th. My (saved page) says Paypal 20% kickback.

I am just hearing of this fiasco and have accepted the item from UPS. I have opened the shipping box only. I wonder if they would cover shipping back?

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this

Just wanted to throw my two cents in as well ... I placed two orders (one on my Paypal, one on my wifes).  From the look of things, neither of the orders is going to count for the 20% (my order was late on the 26, her's late on the 28th).  I obviously never saw that the deal had gotten pulled and was acting on the understanding that it ran from the 26th-28th.

In my eyes, Paypal owes me $100.  That $100 was the bulk of the reason I placed the order that I did.  Here's hoping both parties can come up with a good solution.
