    Firefox 3 - Tips / Tricks / Tweaks

    Please add your FF3 whatevers!

    AwesomeBar

By default, FF3 gives you 12 lines of Awesome.  If you'd like to adjust it, type about:config in your address bar.  Insert browser.urlbar.maxRichResults in the search bar.  Double click the entry and change 12 to whatever you like.  (To disable it altogether, use -1, not 0)  Source with pics.

Awesome Bar -> AutoComplete.  (IE and Safari behavior)  Type about:config in your address bar.  Insert browser.urlbar.autoFill in the search bar.  Double click the entry, change the entry to TrueSource

Well, that's all I've found/needed so far.  What else is there?  Help Me

    Edit for consolidation:

    aesman:

I read the link and it is the same as what jimmyrcom says in the video.

    For - true/30

    Don't forget

    network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server I set mine to "50"

    GiddyUpGo:

Firefox has an option that thinks it knows which pages you will need and pre-loads them, even tho you might not even use them. Setting this option from true to false will speed up your browser plus save you bandwidth those pre-loaded pages take up.

Normal 0 Under About:config search for:

    network.prefetch-next

toggle it from true to false

    GiddyUpGo:

If you are still wanting tips, here is a good site that lists how to use Firefox 3 plus a lot of how-to-do tweaks.

    http://www.tweakguides.com/

Add (note these values, especially, will depend on your connection speed)

    aesman:

Double Click on the following settins and put in the numbers below - for the true / false booleans - they’ll change when you double click.

    Code:
    network.http.max-connections – 48
    network.http.max-connections-per-server – 16
    network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy – 8
    network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server – 4
    network.http.pipelining – true
    network.http.pipelining.maxrequests – 100
    network.http.proxy.pipelining – true

One more thing… Right-click somewhere on that screen and add a NEW -> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0”. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. If you’re broadband - it shouldn’t have to wait.

Now you should notice you’re loading pages MUCH faster now!

    for the office:

    Office Poltergeist

Mammon slept. And the beast reborn spread over the earth and its numbers
grew legion. And they proclaimed the times and sacrificed crops unto the
fire, with the cunning of foxes. And they built a new world in their own
    image as promised by the
    sacred words, and spoke
of the beast with their children. Mammon awoke, and lo! it was
    naught but a follower.

    Re: Firefox 3 - Tips / Tricks / Tweaks

    What does OfficePoltergeist do?

Install the OfficePoltergeist server on a victim's computer and you can take possession of it. Use OfficePoltergeist to:

    • Play spooky sounds
    • Open or close cd drives
    • Transmit text through your victim's keyboard
    • Make windows shake
    • Turn monitors on and off
    • Move windows slightly left and right
    • Send popup alert messages

thanks 20rules...its not April fool DieDie

btw - hydro, I tried the spellchecking in that Guide, but it does not work for me...you tried ? how ?

    Re: Firefox 3 - Tips / Tricks / Tweaks

Hmm, I haven't used that yet.  Might try it out, though.

Edit - Worked for me.  It required a browser restart, and I tested it with a google search.

    Re: Firefox 3 - Tips / Tricks / Tweaks

I was messing around in about:config, looks like quite a few of the speed tweaks from FF2 will still apply, but haven't messed with it much yet.

    Wanna talk extensions, too?

Security:  Adblock Plus --- Filterset.G Updater --- NoScript
Email:  GMail Manager --- Yahoo! Mail Notifier
Candy:  Aging Tabs --- Searchbar Autosizer --- Compact Menu 2 --- Well-Rounded (waiting for update) --- Tidy Browser Button (waiting for update)
Functionality, Etc:  Tab Mix Plus --- IE Tab --- All-in-One Sidebar (AiOS) --- Copy Link Text (CoLT) ---  FEBE (waiting for update) --- Mouse Gestures (waiting for update)

That's just what I like....what do you install?

    Edit - strikethroughs

This is his You Tube Channel.

    http://www.youtube.com/user/jimmyrcom?ob=4

He just did a review and tip guide for FF3.

Edit: the first 6 or so minutes of his latest video is about common stuff after that he gives the best addons and about:config info. his other videos are really good.

    MY addons -

    feed sidebar

    flagfox

    mcafee siteadvisor

tab mix plus....a great add on

Yeah he seems like a real cool dude and videos have helped me out tremendously with FF3. I like the cluttered tool bar. Of course, I have a 22 inch widescreen Samsung LCD which doesn't hurt. I use to have it packed with all kinds web development stuff but it was way to cluttered.

    From PapaHomer:

Dude I know it makes FF so much more personalized.

I am just going to screen shot mine and show it on here.

To the far right There is suppose to be a McAfee Siteadvisor bar and country flag showing where the server I am is located.

    Here's HydroFoxWhip

Edit - That feed sidebar does look handy.  It looks like it has some of the stuff I like about AIOS.  I just don't really use RSS...

IamHydrogen...what's that toolbar looking item at the very far left?

Looks like some shortcuts to extensions...etc?   How is that done?

    Re: Firefox 3 - Tips / Tricks / Tweaks

Nice. I like the black and orange tabs. Papa that is his bookmarks. Is that an add on and is it easily shut off and on.

I never was much of a feeder either but it rocks. I have a whole bunch of feeds on it now and it updates which makes it updated Confused. anyway I got youtube on there, news, wiki, and some of my favorite less known sites like the p bay, lvlselect, lifehacker, gateworld.net, and planetary society. It all keeps itself tidy in folders which is nice and gives a preview window which you can see in my other post. I recommend giving it a try. Especially if most of your favorite sites have feeds because you can click right on them like book marks, except it takes you to that article and only one click away from home. Even newegg has a feed. But I am there everyday anyway. I don't need to see the latest products and such.

Also, I just can't get use to the small toolbars toooooo tidy for me.

That's part of AIOS.  I like the add-on because it is SO able to be customized.  You can set it to have that toolbar there all the time, or so it collapses with the sidebar.  You can have those shortcuts open in the sidebar, or in separate windows (and you can set them individually).  It's a very neat add-on.

I gave AIOs a go and I love it so far. Thanks

    Download helper rocks too.

Update: I am such an idot. I accidently toggled the autotoggle button making it hide itself. I didn't know that and ever time I would run my mouse over the window it would minimize. I thought there was something wrong with the latest update. lol

Firefox has an option that thinks it knows which pages you will need and pre-loads them, even tho you might not even use them. Setting this option from true to false will speed up your browser plus save you bandwidth those pre-loaded pages take up.

    Under About:config search for:

     network.prefetch-next

    toggle it from true to false. Normal 0 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";}

Sorry for the ending few lines. I tried to edit it out but could not.....I used a copy command from my personal notes. and this is probable what happed. Anyway ignore the last lines and stop at the "toggle it from true to false." I won't try copy and paste again!

no worries that is a firefox flaw...it doesn't do that with explorer.

if you are going to paste something big and don't want those lines I would just use IE for that then sign back in on FF.
