The technical term for Female dog comes to mind. Additionally dogs usually associated with masculinity. Most people call dogs "he" while cats generally are called "she" when people dont know the gender. Geekspeak aside

True, kitties are normally thought of as female.  Female sounds like feline and canine, well that sound all tuff and men like that.
