Another good tip is if you have gmail, utilize tags. Tags are great to use as a dye in the spam waters, so to speak. If I sign up for, say, a bank, and my email address is JohnSmith@gmail.com, I'd sign up with JohnSmith+Bank@gmail.com. Anything after the +, gmail automatically knows it's a tag and the name before the + is the address. So when you receive any emails from said bank, it should read in the to field JOhnSmith+Bank@gmail.com.

So if you receive any spam with +Bank in there, you know who gave it to them *grin*

Only problem is that sometime they don't like the +, and won't allow you to sign up. But if you use tag's religiously, you can easily sort through your mail.
