grr. im doin somethin wrong. I think its cause im using a different theme.

I got to Navigate Mozilla -> FireFox -> Profiles (then some .default file). Then I see a chrome folder and in the extensions folder beside it it has my theme's folder called "redshift_V2@shift-themes.com" along with some other folders. And I didnt have any of this "userChrome-example.css, userContent-example.css"

Sorry, new to this CSS thing.

Are you using FireFox 2.0? I just tried the RedShiftV2 theme, and you don't have to worry about it.. Just proceed into the Chrome folder. You're correct, there is a mistake above where I mentioned the possibility of the directory being different for different themes. This is not true.. If you're using FireFox 2.0 then you don't need to worry about your current theme. Always use the "Chrome" directory.

hmm...went into the chrome folder and stuck the usercontent.css file in there but there are still none of those example files. In fact, the usercontent file is the only one in that folder. I looked through a whole bunch of other folders but still no sign of em. restarted firefox a coupla times but no luck.

@kevlarorc are you running Windows XP or Vista? You *might* want to try a fresh install of firefox. It's strange that those files don't exist. Have you tried doing a search on your entire hard drive for them?

Nice article Sidicas. If anyone is using vista make sure the file saves as an .css not a text file because the settings won't work. I had that problem saving via notepad. I used 1600 for the width I am using a 1680x1050 res.

well i found the example files and copied em into the chrome folder and then tried saving the user made one into a CSS file but to no avail. about.com's tutorial on saving CSS files wasnt very helpful shall we say. (btw i just now noticed that newegg's site is already widescreened for me 0.o)

@kevlarorc yea, this is for EggXpert not NewEgg.. NewEgg's website is already widescreen.. Where did you find the files? The userContent.css should be place in the same directory as the example files.. So wherever you found the example files, userContent.css was supposed to go there instead of moving the example files into the chrome directory :D

@cxk297 Yea, you have to be careful that by default windows will hide file extensions for known file types.. So if you don't save it right, you might have a filename that looks like "userContent.css" but the .txt extension is hidden and the filename is really "userContent.css.txt" which will not work. Just a heads up for anybody who might run into that problem though I'm not sure it's related to cxk287's problem..

If you set the width to 100% it will dynamically adjust the website for viewing in the browser. It doesn't have to be set to a static pixel width.

And as I pointed out in that thread, it has graphical glitches if you resize the window too small which is why I don't use it.

Thanks a lot for that tweak Sidicas. Im loving viewing this site at 1645 (1650x1080 screen res) Its a lot more enjoyable navigating teh site now.

To bad I couldn't get all websites do view like this.

Works pretty slick. Now running at 1900 width for the 1920x1200 res I am running at. I am going to guess this works for other sites as well, to just change the eggxpert.com to another address?

sjr: Unfortunately, it's a little more complicated than that.. If the other site uses CSS, then you'll need to find the entry in their CSS that controls the page layout and change them as necessary.. Because EggXpert is designed fairly well, it's very easy to change it with a small tweak.. Other sites may not work very well when changed and may also have strange graphical glitches if you mess around with the page layout like that.
