Netflix Review: Step Up

Yes. I know. I should turn in my man card for even adding this into my queue.

But I liked it.

No, I really liked it.

I mean, it probably won't win any awards but I liked it the same way I liked National Treasure. It was a good flick. I've got a guilty pleasure for "guy meets hottie girl" plots. And throw in some music/dancing? I'm a sucker for dancing.

So the set up is he is from the rough side of the neighborhood, and he boosts cars for cash with his friend and his friend's little brother. One thing leads to another and he becomes the fall guy for vandalism at an Art-sy school. His punishment is community service at the school, as a janitor. He, said main character, likes to dance. Err, loves to dance at the clubs and likes music. The common denominator when boy meets hottie girl. When hottie girl's dance partner twists his ankle up... pitch and a swing. That's the general set up of the movie.

But you can have the best (or worst) setup/plot of all time but the ending will always make it or break it. Ending was good. Some parts of it I thought "bad acting... could have been executed better" but the ending was mostly focused on the show that this entire movie was preparing for--which was good. I also liked the catalyst that was used to get the main character to the show. I won't ruin it, and nothing I've said so far a 4 year old couldn't guess, so go rent it (I just wouldn't buy it)!

Netflix Review: The Kingdom

Wow.

Just "Wow."

This movie actually made me want to put my opinions on the electronic paper. Fantastic movie. I got it the other day and hadn't had the chance to watch it. About 1 minute ago the first of the credits started rolling by and I immediately felt the urge to tell someone else about it.

Not only is this movie about catching the "bad" guy, it goes into the why of said "bad" guy being bad. The ending does a beautiful full circle. So many complexities, culturally as well as historically. Plenty of action and it has enough realism/drama to make you feel like you are there.

My friend who was actually over there (middle east) attested to it being a great movie. And said friend, with enough "fun liquid" in him, has told some gruesome stories that he experienced as a soldier.

I give this 4.5 out of 5 stars
