  • used computer parts

    Hi everyone,

We just had a new sponsor come on line and right away he bought us 5 power supplies for the older athlon machines that we have.  Its a local truck body builder that has helped us with individual projects many times, and now he wants to be part of the mainstream and help as much as possible. He will bo on our web page soon.

I have been real busy getting machines ready to donate and we have more out this year so far than any previous year.

Then I ended up in the emergency room with tachycardia.  So I am to take beta blockers for three weeks and if it cannot be managed by drugs then surgery to kill the misfiring nerve causing the problem, and of course look for blockages and repair any that are there. Still building computers and getting one ready now for a single mom with kids in school who is putting her way through college.  She forces me to keep a ledger so she can pay it all back one day and I also informed her that money wouldn't be accepted from her but any old parts she came accross or older machines I can strip for parts are always welcome. When you add up the cost of just motherboard screws, slot covers, audio wires you can have a lot invested really fast and still have a relatively small inventory.  While I did buy a bit of stuff in the beginning I get most of that stuff off older proprietary machines now and have a good inventory of it.

We are getting a lot of new people in the #cancer-survivors group, but still the other rooms we are starting are a bit slow. We just got a new guestbook up so please feel free to drop in and see and sign our guestbook. Let the people know that are ill that others are thinking about them.

If you have old pc's and parts, right now I need just about everything I can get my hands on 1000Mhz and over CPU machines and newer. Windows 98 pentium2 machines aren't worth shipping but the memory if it is 256 of 612 sticks sure is and any hard drives 40 gig or over.  Any non proprietary cases are also very good and of course memory ddr in 512 and up chips are always excellent as the big batch of that I had is gone now.

Be sure to visit out domain at www.centralsupportgroups.com and sign our guestbook.  We are still looking for cash sponsors but only businesses please.  Private party's just used parts is a huge help.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day

  • New and used computer parts

    Hi Everyone,

I messed up on that lasg blog inserting a picture and it seems to be gone.  It doesn't seem to want to let me copy and paste the picture in this blog, even dragging it into blog didn't work and lost everything.  I haven't been on contact as I have been very ill the last week.  We do have two really nice custom used machines ready to go here, and homes for them.

Things in the support groups have been a bit roungh in the cancer group as we have some people there in really bad shape. We all try to keep a possitive attitude and take it all one day at a time in there.  Its hard to stay detatched from them and you often become very close to them.  sometimes you lose them and at that point you just have to be thankful that you did have time with them.

The computer project has added excitement to the room cause even though all these people are not at their best, they are apart of something of their own helping others, and of course helping each other.  Its funny how a little project like this will booste the morale of a group so much. We have been donating between 25 and 30 computers per year, and while thats nothing compared to what the big guys can do we do help people that have no other way to get a computer that is up to date and secure.  We deliver them fully loaded and ready to use, just put in email address and connect to internet and they are off and running with almost 100% free software, the exception being the operating system if we use windows.  We are starting to use Linux Ubuntu also, it will be interesting to see how people do with it.  Its not real hard and already set up it will do a great job for them.  Most of the time its Windows xp or Windows 2000 pro.

Well I have to get back to the group all, be sure to let root know if you have any parts or anything that you would like to donate to our computer donation program so he can get my my shipping information.

    have a great day everyone,

    Ron aka `Bear

Good morning everyone.  I am off to an early start this morning. have a little pc job for a freind replacing a chipset ban on an epox board and updating my freinds memory.  Then its back to work on donation machines.  I have a few custom machines going on right now and three of the Dells are ready to go to a new home.  I will start getting pictures of builds and put them in blogs.  Just have to figure out a way to make the fancy camera I got from new egg smaller.  My wife is the photographer and she don't know how, but I am quite sure i will figure out a way.

We have had several machines going out lately a laptop to a lady in canada and a laptop to a lady in Lake Placid Florida. When I do the labor on these machines they are totally loaded and ready to use, with the newest possible operating system they will run.  With windows 2000 pro on P3's they all have 512 megs of ram and with machines that are newer and support more memory we put a gig in them.  Its no secret that xp and the protections needed to keep it clean and protected and running need more memory, and 512 just isn't enough. I have tons of free software that I use like Open Office, VLC media player for dvd's and a dvd cd writing program.  A machine can be protected with the right tools and they are all installed on the machines.  When one of the people we donate receives a machine it is ready to go add personsal stuff and your done.

The lady in Lake Placid needed mIRC setup for her so she could just double click on one icon and be in the cancer-survivors channel. She is not real computer literate and treatments have been so severe teaching her well has been difficult, as we are dealing with the emotions and her illness.  I first got involved with cancer-survivors when my 5 year old son got leukemia ALL type which in little kids is very cureable but in teens and young adults very hard to deal with.  Its been 14 years now and we are starting more support groups for more types of illnesses because its a proven fact that you get a lot more understanding from those that are going through it or have been there.

Please visit our websight and anyone wanting to donate old machines or parts and peices get ahold of root as he has my mailing address and all of my information.  And of course anyone with any ideas on how to make this project easier or suggestions for our homesite at www.centralsupportgroups.com  are very welcome.  our domain of support groups it owned by our members and all vote on things and contribute their ideas to make things better for all.  Most of our channel operators do not op themselves unless their is a problem as to not present a wall of ops to new people when they come in.  I do run three linux bots in a botree in all channels to keep them open 24/7 and to also prevent flood attacks and takeovers.  We pride ourselves on being a very secure and safe with our groups.  We offer very safe and secure site for our members to meet and talk.  many become very close and we have had two couples that met in the channel get married.

We have people in our groups that master all operating systems so provide technical support for Windows, Linux Ubuntu, and mac's.  If a member gets a virus or exploit problem I personally help them rid it from their system by talking them through it on the phone and helping them set up their protections so it can be avoided for the most part.  Thank god for rollover minutes, lol.

The computer donation project started about 5 years ago and has been growing every year.  Most of the people we donate to have no idea they are getting a computer and don't know who we are.  They are people found by our members and other sources like The Central Point School Board who recently donated two new Lexmark printers still in the box brand new.  We send these computers all over the country and on occasion out of the country like Canada and the UK, with one going to Australia.

If everyone would take part in one project to help others even annonmously the world would be a far better place.  As a disabled man it gives my life meaning and what uptime I do have is productive even though I can't work fulltime.

We are not a business, tax free entity or anything like that, this is just a project formed by The Cancer survivors support group to give more meaning to their lives knowing that even in the worst of health they are valuable to others, and can help others that have no other way to get a pc. Any kid jr high and up should have access to a computer at home for school and so many families can't afford one. It meens so much to those recipients to have a computer and be able to do better in school or just to get to the online supprt groups.

Please visit our website at www.centralsupportgroups.com  under construction to learn more about us, the channels we have and are starting.  You may know someone who needs to be in a support group, if so tell them about us.  As I said before please contact Root about anything you may have to contribute and he will help ya.  He has all my information.

For now I hope you all have a wonderful day, and I will try to blog at least every other day in the future now that I am getting the site pretty well figured out.

    thanks again all

    Ron Herman

  • Compuer parts needed, used or new

Hi everyone,  my name is Ron Herman and I am the administrator of a support domain with 7 support channels some established and some starting for cancer support, Lupus, chronicpain, widowed, and several others you can look at on http://www.central supportgroups.com  I have done business with newegg for many years.

I am 53 years old medically retired.  I am a self trained pc specialist.  I build new for family and friends with anything I make going into the support groups.  Also we have a computer donation program.  We donate to Patients so they can get to online support groups and message boards, we donate to single moms with kids in school, college students, high school students, elderly people, just about anyone that cannot afford one that really should have one.  We donated 27 last year and 25 the year before.

We just received 12 Dell 8100 machines with no hard drives or operating systems, and also 1 server with no hard drives, and 6 custom machines with no hard drives and some needeing boards which I fortunately do have a few of.  Right now we are hurting on 40 gig and above hard drives, video cards, laptop hard drives 40 gig ide type, pc3200 memory, athlon cpu socket A 2400 and up, pc-133 memory.  We also need 8 compies of windows xp home.  Most of the machines that we just got fortunately hae software with them.

If anyone out there would like to be a sponsor or help us out a bit, please let me know. We are not big hitters that give away hundreds of new a year but the ones who receive a computer are sure happy and usually have no other way of getting one.  We are not a tax write-off.  Just people helping people.  We survive and keep the groups going with the help of some really good sponsors, but it does take a lot to do all of this and we at this time really do not have enough help for our pc donation program.  We could do so much more if we could get the equipment.

Anyways thats a bit about me and what I do, I am married with three kids, one in college, one just out of the navy and a 14 year old daughter in high school.
